user84 46 Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 I've noticed that for TV shows that I have multiple seasons for, it will show the length of the average episode. But for single season shows, or shows that I only have one season of, it will not show the length of an average episode on the landing page for that TV show. How do I get the average length of each episode to appear on all TV show landing pages, regardless of the number of seasons?
Luke 42077 Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Hi, I don’t think it’s related to number of seasons. I think it’s that the data isn’t filled on tvdb or whatever your highest priority series fetcher is.

Here's an example: https://thetvdb.com/series/abbott-elementary#general This series has an average run time listed under the general tab. However, I don't have all the seasons of this show, I only have season 3. When I look at the season 3 landing page in Emby, I see no average run time. So the data is in TVDB, it just isn't being pulled into an individual season.

Those are two different places... I'm not sure we've ever shown the length on the season list page (which is a bit defunct now with our new multi-season layout). Is the length showing on the TV Show page?

For reference, I have many seasons of The West Wing, and on the same page pictured above for that show, it lists 45 minutes. But if I scroll down and select the specific episode, it shows 43 minutes which is the length of that particular episode. Where does the 45 minutes come from?

It’s not related to the length of your episode files.

pwhodges 2012 Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 The figures on TVDB are just what someone has put in. It is so common that I'd call it usual that a whole show will have the length specified as the same, an average rounded to a nice figure. TVDB has no access to the actual videos to measure them, and often nor do the people inputting the metadata - I myself have put in a show for which no public source exists, with the lengths just taken from old broadcast listings.
