Conversion / Extracting subtitles for Download Original Version

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

i'm using the download (sync as is / original) function.

When the movie has subrib subtitles, the server is extracting / converting them before. My device is capable of playing them original (streaming is an direct play)

The downloaded movie then has 2 Subtitles Streams. Is this an expected behaviour?

Hi, what Emby app are you downloading with?

Hey,

i try to download with Emby for Android 3.3.86 on a Lenovo Tablet P11 Pro G2.

Hi, that's really odd. Can you please try this again with the latest update to Emby for Android that just went out this weekend? Please try downloading something new and let us know how that compares. Thanks.

Updates to 3.3.97, but no difference.

It's still converting the subrib subtitles.

HI, can you please attach a new log example? Thanks.

Does this only happen when the video is part of a multi-version set on the server?

Posted

No, i have no multi-versions. it does happen every time when the subtitle is in subrip-format.

the "second version" in the screenshot above is the downloaded version with additional/converted vtt subtitles

Then if the second one is the downloaded version then I don’t see any evidence there that an extraction occurred. You can see it only has one subtitle stream and it is not external.

Please ready what i exactly weite. you have the logs with the evidence. The "second" was in quotes and is always on top in the Screenshots and was not meant as the second in Screenshots.

Top = Download

Button = original

Just asking why you demand always for logs, ask to do this and that, and after all you just ignore the topic.

Yea I can see that this is happening based on your log files, but I have not been able to reproduce.

As a test, if you do a complete uninstall of the android app, then reinstall it, does that make a difference?

No, it's no difference.

Tried to uninstall, install 3.3.96. -> same behaviour

Tried to uninstall, install latest 3.4.06 -> same behaviour

Tried another device (an old hauwei mediapad M5 Lite) with installed 3.3.95 -> same behaviour.

I noticed that the first instance shows Audio Language ger.  The duplicate shows Audio Language German.  Did this language metadata get updated in the media file.  Could this change the file's time-date data?  Would the new date cause Emby to consider the media to be new and pull the sub-title a second time, resulting in two copies?

Can you provide a sample video for testing? thanks.

OK thanks. That's odd though because I tested this and no extraction occurred. when you try to download are you doing everything directly from the android device?

Posted

Yes, i'm download from the android device directly.

Tested now 3 devices, all have the same behaviour. Maybe it's some server configuration?

OK how about another test. Please uninstall the app from the device, then delete the device in the Emby Server devices section, and then reinstall and test again. Please let me know if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Unfortunately there is no difference.

Tested this seperately on two devices (tablet and mobile / both android version)

OK thanks for the update.

sschimi,

If your system keeps converting subs and Luke cannot see it happen, then it would seem possible that your system has prehaps reached a limit to handle this conversion.

Use a test video that has the resolution you want, with AAC audio that does not need to be converted and one Subrip subtitle.  See if that works.  Then find test videos with higher res and more subtitles and run them, until you see the conversion start for subtitles.  Maybe you have reached a limit with your system on how much it can handle and Luke's server is faster.

It would be nice if the logs point this out.  We can't troubleshoot what's going on when we can't reproduce the problem.   I would recommend not using any media you got from some other source.  It could be a video plays correctly but still has timeline or metadata errors.

Hope that helps.
