TallTrees 0 Posted May 19, 2024 Posted May 19, 2024 Running Emby 4.8.7.0 on Synology NAS DS218+ with 6 GB RAM. NAS Storage is at 45%. Overall, no problems for years, playing 3-10 minute MP4 music video files to my LG UHD TV, through Roku box (Emby 4.1.19). Recently I am getting buffering during loading on SOME videos, which then pause and buffer during playback. Stats show Transcode running (H264 15.02 Mbs), also Deinterlacing. Many of the videos play without any issue as Direct Play (15 Mbs). This is the way they all used to play. I have turned off Transcoding within Emby settings, rebooted everything, and it makes no difference. Re-scanned the files more than once. The videos that transcode are always the same ones. Side by side with videos that run without problem. No apparent difference between them except how they play back. There are no other apparent issues on the NAS or within the Roku box itself. I must be missing something, but don't know what. Why is Playback ignoring my setting that turns off transcode? "Network Quality" within Emby is set to Auto, but it seems to ignore that also, if I force to another setting. I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.
TallTrees 0 Posted May 19, 2024 Author Posted May 19, 2024 Also, everything plays with no problem on Emby on my PC. The files that play with Transcoding on the Roku play as Direct with no problem on my PC. If there was a network issue of some kind, shouldn't everything drag on the Roku? Not just the same files, over and over?

You can also post server and ffmpeg logs for one of these sessions: 2 hours ago, TallTrees said: The videos that transcode are always the same ones. How to Report a Problem
Luke 42077 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
TallTrees 0 Posted May 20, 2024 Author Posted May 20, 2024 Thanks, Luke. I am attaching the "failure" logs here. FYI, I see now that the problem files are always showing as 1080i, and the ones that work properly are 1080p. That was never an issue before, as the Avermedia recorder I use can only record in 1080i. I also have this same file transferred to 1080p, and can show those logs as well if you want. embyserver.1080i.txt ffmpeg-transcode-9f058b45-6d1a-4acd-bbbf-d9fd328cb79a_1.1080i.txt
TallTrees 0 Posted May 20, 2024 Author Posted May 20, 2024 Also attaching a snip from the Settings screen:

Visible from your logs also: Quote >>>>>> User policy for emby Enable Playback Remuxing: True Enable Video Playback Transcoding: True Enable Audio Playback Transcoding: True If you want to disable transcoding (or remuxing), you need to do it on per-user basis in Settings>User>edit desired user: Note that disabling might lead to other issues and ultimately create more problems than actually solve, as denoted in option helper text.
TallTrees 0 Posted May 20, 2024 Author Posted May 20, 2024 Ok, understood. I will give that a shot. But then if there are other probs, what then? And I still don't get why this has become an issue now, when it wasn't before?
GrimReaper 4739 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 12 minutes ago, TallTrees said: And I still don't get why this has become an issue now, when it wasn't before? Not a Roku user, but your device reports no support for interlaced video, hence transcoding is required. Quote &TranscodeReasons=InterlacedVideoNotSupported @ebr @speechles
TallTrees 0 Posted May 20, 2024 Author Posted May 20, 2024 Luke, I turned off Video Transcoding under User Playback, and so far, it appears that has resolved the issue, with no other problems. Looking at Stats now, it shows the Stream as Deinterlacing Video, Video with 1080i and Direct Play, and Audio as Direct Play. There is no buffering during loading, and no buffering during Play. Back to full enjoyment! I have over 1000 videos, and use your Randomizer to watch them, sometimes for hours. I have stayed with Emby for years, and will continue to do so. I thought initially this problem was just a matter of proper settings, and it looks like this has been fixed. Not sure why this was never an issue before, but looking forward to enjoying Emby for years to come. Thank you for your quick assistance (and Grim Reaper also).
Luke 42077 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 If you play something that is not interlaced, how does that compare?
TallTrees 0 Posted May 20, 2024 Author Posted May 20, 2024 No problem. Plays without issue, as always.

speechles 2055 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 @TallTreesThis is a Roku Premiere? What model number is your Roku? We might have marked your model as not supporting interlaced video incorrectly. Knowing which model number you have will confirm if we have or not. Apologies if we have and we will correct this. Just need to know your model number.
