Emby, Trakt, and Specials?

I don't think this is an Emby issue. But it is something I've seen recently when watching specials for TV shows in my library. The special has been identified properly by Emby, and is linked to the series it belongs to. But for some reason when watching the special in Emby (Emby for Kodi Next Gen and Emby Theatre), Trakt seems to think I'm watching something else. Example:

Babylon 5 - In the Beginning (Special E02 according to TVDB). Metadata is correct.

While watching the special, Trakt reports:

So far I've only seen Trakt reporting that I'm watching something different than what is actually being played in Emby when I'm watching specials for TV shows. I'm just posting to see if others have seen the same behavior.

And now I'm watching the third Babylon 5 Special, Thirdspace. Trakt thinks I'm watching"

Hi, have you checked all of the external ids, both at the series and episode levels?

I did. They are correct at both the series and episode levels. The external IDs for the special "Babylon 5 - S00E02 - In the Beginning" are:

Clicking on the links next to the IDs takes me to the respective pages at IMDb and TheTVDB. Emby has scraped all the correct metadata, and it reports the episode correctly when playing. But for some reason Trakt is reporting something else.

And at the series level?

All external Ids are correct.

I don't have a lot of special episodes for series in my library. I'll take a look to see what other specials I have for series other than Babylon 5, and play them to see what Trakt reports when playing. I'll report back after some testing.

Okay...all of the specials in my library for Babylon 5 are entered as "movies" at TheTVDB. The specials at the series level are linked to the movies. I think that might be the reason for Trakt not syncing with Emby during playback. I just played the movie Serenity which I have as a special under the series Firefly. TheTVDB includes it as a special with redirect to a movie entry. Emby reports playback correctly. But Trakt reports something else. Although this time it was another unaired episode of Firefly. So not not quite as bad as Babylon 5 special playback being reported as a completely different series.

After a bit more investigation, I think the issue is on the Trakt end. Trakt has removed theTVDb from metadata sources for TV shows that they deem to be represented properly on theMovieDB. The specials I've had issues with are not in theMovieDb at the series level (they are in movie collections). So whatever Emby is reporting to Trakt during scrobbling for those specials shows up as something else.

Just guessing though.
