Same series but extended version is not recognized by Emby

So I have just heard of the extended version of The Office series done by Peacock. So What I did was created a new folder for this series. Now it looks like this:

  • The Office (2001)
  • The Office (2005)
  • The Office (2005) Extended

I can't make Emby to recognize this Extended version in any way.. What Plex initially did was it merged `The Office (2005)` and `The Office (2005) Extended` together and you could use `choose version` to decided which you want to play.. However it offered a more convenient way to recognize the content and it allowed me to do the `Split it` so the end result is that users can choose from 2 separate series directly from the library:

This way extended version is treated/tracked as a separate series from the original one.

How to achieve same result with Emby please?

Thanks!

Hi, is it merged in Emby server?

You would disable the option on the library, note it will apply to all Shows.

But note since playback is tracked by providerid all these items will appear twice in Continue Watching/Next Up and watching one will watch both.

I confirm it happens like this.. can it be fixed in the future? thanks

Since it is tracked by providerid they are the same item no matter the versions.

In the end it is up to devs but personally don't see it happening.

I guess the only work around may be identify one with TVDB only and the other with TMDB only and lock metadata so they are seen as two different shows per technically missing metadata.

I just realized it would be ideal to address this because I have others series which are in multiple language which I cannot sync into single series... Most of the time it is `English` and `Czech` but sometimes I have same series in 3 languages including `Slovak` too.. What do you think? Thanks!

What would you like Emby to do?

To avoid showing all "versions" of the same series in "continue watching" section. Now I see it like this:

I am just interested into the version I am watching. I often missclick the other one.. So find a way to allow the same series to be present multiple times and have home screen distinguish between them.. Thanks!

Hi, to do this, you need to reenable the merge option and then they'll be merged together again.

The other option is to try to fool Emby by giving one of the series the wrong tvdb id...but then of course, this will cause problems with metadata downloading.

Without a redesign the only method I can see has already been mentioned.

I understand it can be tweaked. However permanent solution would be nicer.. please consider with developers. Thanks!

My suggestion would be something similar what Plex offers but on the whole series level. Within Plex for each video file user can hit "..." and select version. Could Emby have something similar but on the whole series level? and have it persistent for the user across all devices.. Same feature apply for movies as well. I have many in 1080p and 4K.. My Zidoo box has this implemented in their home theater system where each move has an option to choose which version to play. Thanks!

Hi, we have the select version feature but remember you disabled that.

For movies? Not sure what you mean by that.. If you are talking about this:

image.thumb.png.7389bde09e60f318b7bdc94478952580.png

it is only present for the Series not Movies..

So if I have a movie in 2 different versions:

I see it as 2 different movies:

What I am talking about is to see it as ONE movie and be able to select the version within the movie itself. For example like we could select Audio and Subtitles have dropdown for movie version as well:

Video is a track not a version so no there will not be a drop-down option there as you will not likely have multiple video track in one file.

Movies requires specific naming scheme or the community plugin or manual grouping.

Movie Naming | Emby Documentation

automatic-version-grouping-for-movies plugin

multi-select and group

So a little work with name or no work with the plugin.

Looking good. Just a pity plugin groups across all the libraries and not just within the library scope.. but many thanks anyway!

Have not used it but there is an option/setting in the .9 version to "Merge items across different libraries".  But by not merging all versions you will have multiple versions show in CW.
