EmYaj 25 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 I'm really confused now. just finished moving to a new far more powerful server and getting some livetv freezes in testing. Direct play audio and video (see screenshot attached), a new server with plenty of ram to spare, a high end nvme drive, 10gbps connection (12ms ping from me to the server, speedtest maxes out my gigabit connection, 0 dropped packets over a 30 minute test). ryzen 7950x processor is almost idle during playback (1-2% usage) and live tv is still skipping/lagging every 5 minutes or so for a few seconds. audio and video both freeze. latest version of emby, just installed. no other users or streams. fresh install of ubuntu 22.04 LTS. streaming device is a firestick 4k max this issue does not occur when streaming the same channel through a different app from the same provider just to rule out that it might be a provider issue emby log attached embyserver(12).txt
EmYaj 25 Posted May 17, 2024 Author Posted May 17, 2024 i dont really know how to read these logs but i downloaded a new log immediately after getting another skip and saw this.. not sure if its related? as far as i know i do not haev any bitrate limits set. 2024-05-17 18:41:37.020 Info App: Bitrate exceeds DirectPlay limit: media bitrate: 40000000, max bitrate: 4000002 2024-05-17 18:41:37.020 Info App: Bitrate exceeds DirectStream limit: media bitrate: 40000000, max bitrate: 4000002 i do have internet quality set to "auto" so maybe its setting it too low?
Luke 42077 Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 Is this a remote connection or is the device on the same local network as the server?

EmYaj 25 Posted May 18, 2024 Author Posted May 18, 2024 Quick update, been messing with this all night trying to figure it out. I have no idea whats going on. It seems to be converting at under 1x which i assume is the problem (log attached) but i dont understand how its possible that it's not able to keep up with the stream. The cache drive is nvme benchmarking with yabs at ~5GB/s read and write which is obviously plenty. The CPU is basically idle, htop shows anywhere from 3-5% on all cores. Memory usage for the whole system is 1.85GB Attached htop screenshot showing server stats while the video is skipping and getting convertion speeds of ~0.8x 23:45:21.050 elapsed=00:01:35.44 frame= 4818 fps= 50 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:01:16.66 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.803x ffmpeg-directstream-701ef03d-789c-415c-83a4-1a43215d7923_1.txt
EmYaj 25 Posted May 19, 2024 Author Posted May 19, 2024 Just adding a little bit more for when you guys get back next week... the last few minutes of this log were skipping issues, server completely idle and only 1 person streaming live tv. time of 22:23 was the issues embyserver(18).txt
Luke 42077 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Hi, I would suggest allowing video transcoding and then using the quality setting to reduce the bitrate. You could have port try throttling occurring on either side of the connection.
