cochize1 55 Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 I managed to grab logs while just one remote user was watching an episode on his iPhone using latest (I think) Emby for iOS app. Video is HEVC 1920x960 and was transcoded to 1280x640. Could somebody explain to my why is this happening? Can't tell if the users settings were set to Auto playback but I have seen this "video resolution not supported" lately quite often among other users as well and was wondering what is the reason. My set up is Emby server on my NUC 8 with i78809G CPU and AMD Radeon RX Vega M GH behind revers proxy and files on my Synology NAS and remote access to for my users via myserver.com domain. All settings set to Auto and default on my side with no cap on bitrate for remote connections. Attached are the logs. Thank in advance for taking a look into this. ffmpeg-transcode-b5f6f40a-c3f4-41f3-bd7f-da04a200afbe_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-f496cadf-b13d-4bc1-afb8-32f439dd7453_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-0a6e0142-3e49-406d-a1a9-0f36e6a60acb_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-836e7036-e3e7-4af6-a39e-3494da0875c3_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-b8c313c4-73be-47ad-b87a-f082421aa089_1.txt embyserver.txt
Luke 42079 Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 The video resolution exceeds the chosen quality setting.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 What is the client playback set to? VideoBitrate=2680000&AudioBitrate=320000&MaxWidth=1280 2024-05-15 14:35:20.237 Info App: Profile: VideoCodecProfile, DirectPlay=false. Reason=Unnamed.Width Condition: LessThanEqual. ConditionValue: 1280. IsRequired: False. Path: xxx.mkv
cochize1 55 Posted May 15, 2024 Author Posted May 15, 2024 @Luke@Happy2Play So the reason for transcoding is client's changed settings (safe to assume he changed them from Auto to something else), right? It is my remote user, I might ask if you're interested.

There are two reasons for video resolution, one being device support, the other being due to the quality setting.
cochize1 55 Posted May 15, 2024 Author Posted May 15, 2024 Well it's a new iPhone with latest Emby app so, I'd assume user's quality settings. Thanks for clearing that up. 1
