xe` 45 Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) I am the proud new owner of Roku 4k streaming stick. It is a lovely little device and the Emby app is performant and intuitive. However I have real issues with the video quality when comparing to the previous open source player LibreELEC. After some effort I discovered the Roku OS options to not enforce HDR and to allow the frame rate to remain native e.g. 24fs rather than applying soap opera 60fps. The problem I have now is that I cannot work out how to disable up-scaling, noise reduction and edge enhancement. Whilst the Roku user experience is infinitely better than LibreELEC the video performance is significantly worse. Is this something the Emby client can control? Edit: For reference this is how I disabled soap opera refresh rate Edited May 14, 2024 by xe` Add link

xe` 45 Posted May 14, 2024 Author Posted May 14, 2024 Thanks for the answer, I was worried but pretty certain it would be the case. For posterity anyone looking at getting a Roku you need to accept that for the convenience and price you are accepting sub standard video quality. Its not bad, far from it, its just by default a prime example with all thats wrong with the TV industry, extreme artificial processing and soap opera effect. You can make this a lot better but as per the topic you cant completely opt out. I am especially sensitive to this as I pretend I am a buff so the Roku is going to be relegated to a casual TV.
