BrandonYoung 12 Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 (edited) Hello, This issue seems limited to just the web app from my Chromebook. The Web app from Chrome in MS Windows has no issue. My Chromebook is an Acer Chromebook Spin 513 (CP513-2H), An arm Based Chromebook with a Mediatek Kompanio CPU Current Emby server is version 4.8.6.0. ChromeOS Version is 124.0.6367.154 I don't know if it is the recent server version update, but all of the sudden, None of my AV1 encoded videos show properly in the Web App. Ironically, it looks like my earlier issue with 480p AV1 files not playing properly in the Android App in ChromeOS seems to be resolved. From the Stats for Nerds, you can see that the video is streaming Direct Play. So this is not a transcoding issue. I am attaching a screen recording of what I see when I tried to play the video, So you can see what I am talking about, and the Emby server log. Luke 42077 Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Hi, sounds like the browser video player is having trouble with this particular file. How does this video play for you: https://github.com/SPBTV/video_av1_samples
BrandonYoung 12 Posted May 13, 2024 Author Posted May 13, 2024 The test file plays back. I can also play the Big buck bunny video here https://test-videos.co.uk/vids/bigbuckbunny/mp4/av1/1080/Big_Buck_Bunny_1080_10s_1MB.mp4 Some of files that I tested were working before, and something changed. I did some more testing, downloading a couple of episodes from Emby to the Chromebook to play locally. I dragged the copied videos to a new browser window, and the browser couldn't show the video while it was playing, but I could hear the audio. Using the Chromebook's Gallery player also showed the same problem. I presume it is a web app? but mpv and vlc Android apps had no problems with the files.
BrandonYoung 12 Posted May 13, 2024 Author Posted May 13, 2024 I am also seeing odd behavior in the web app interface. Not sure if it is related. At first, I thought my server just might be busy as it was slow to respond to some clicks, But my server CPU load is low according to btop. I see the web interface elements remain static on screen as I scroll or navigate my Emby instance. Here is another screen recording. This is only happening on my Chromebook. not seeing this issue on Chrome for Windows. Screen recording 2024-05-13 9.40.35 AM.webm
Luke 42077 Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Yea mpv and vlc are a lot more robust than the browser video player and will be able to handle quite a bit more things. How were these files created?
BrandonYoung 12 Posted May 13, 2024 Author Posted May 13, 2024 I used Handbrake to extract videos from my bluray and DVD collection. I used Handbrake's AV1 matroska preset, and basically kept the default settings, and just changed the audio and subtitle tracks to include.
Solution BrandonYoung 12 Posted May 13, 2024 Author Solution Posted May 13, 2024 I don't know the cause, but I just powerwashed my Chromebook, and it looks like video playback is fixed. 1
