EricKnaak 4 Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Starting off how I got here. I setup my OS (truenas Scale) with a domain name (URL) with a provider that mostly video content is a violation of ToS. The setup had my server update DNS records so my changing IP address would stay updated. GoDaddy recently changed their plans so to access API to auto update the DNS, you need to own many domain names, or pay $8 a month. I won't do either. I was going to try google domains (I bought one through them), but they are being handed over to squarespace and might change rules soon as well. My question is which domain providers still let you update the IP address in DNS records via command line using their API? And which ones do people recommend for paid domain names. If it works with CertBot that is a plus.
reneboulard 34 Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 I use amazon route 53, you can update any DNS record with their API. There is also a Certbot script specific to route 53 domain to update a certificate. Been working without any issue for many years. 1
EricKnaak 4 Posted May 11, 2024 Author Posted May 11, 2024 I think I will check out Amazon's route 53.
Solution Q-Droid 989 Posted May 12, 2024 Solution Posted May 12, 2024 2 hours ago, Luke said: @Q-Droid may have some tips. I like and use Dynu.com for free DDNS. They have API support and don't have periodic login requirements or query limits like other free DDNS providers. They also have reasonably priced domain registration for your own domains. 1 1 1
