It only has 7 subtitle streams, which is no big deal - some are ASS and some are PGS. The video bit rate is 37Mbps with another 2Mbps for the audio, which is high for an anime, and the default audio is 2.1 [sic] DTS-MA. I can't see anything odd about the ASS subs (they're quite intensive in their effects, but once they play, they play fine). It direct-plays with no issues on iOS 2.2.27 and Android 3.4.20. Playing in the Web client I got the same as the OP - the first attempt to play (with DTS audio and ASS subs) just hung, and then said no compatible streams; but then I tried with PGS and it played OK, and following that the ASS subs played OK as well (both burning in at the server for the web client). I can't repeat the initial issue right now; I presume the transcode has been cached and I need to kill it somehow before I can test what happens when the first play uses either PGS subs or the alternate Flac audio. The experiment started at 20:43 in the attached logs. Paul logs.zip 176.36 kB · 0 downloads My experience was the same as ep1. The .ass will not work on the web client but PGS does. Emby on MacOS was able to direct play everything PGS and .ass. Didn't download the log but here's a SS of the user session. FLAC also works fine. And with FLAC on web.
Riptide126 24 Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 Is it possible that my RAM could be the issue, I only have 16gb at 2133mhz

I just tested, the pgs work for me as well, its just the .ass that doesnt work, let me try on another device and see if I get the issue 1
Riptide126 24 Posted August 14, 2024 Author Posted August 14, 2024 Sorry for the delay, I just tried it on my iphone and it started playing instantly, no buffering no delay. I have attached the logs and a picture of the playback, looks like it was direct play. I was also on my local network when I tested it. embyserver.txt 1
Riptide126 24 Posted September 1, 2024 Author Posted September 1, 2024 Have there been any develops made on this yet? I still have the issue when I try and connect remotely.
Riptide126 24 Posted September 8, 2024 Author Posted September 8, 2024 Ok so it is now doing it with another show, I have attached the release here, when I turned the subtitles off it worked, however when either of the included ASS subtitles were on I had the same issue.

Using the web client only (to force transcoding) the first attempt to play, with ASS subs, comes up with No Compatible Streams; then I play it with PGS subs and it's OK; then another attempt with the same ASS subs succeeds. The logs cover this and nothing else (it was the first thing I did with Emby today). I note that the similar logs I provided last time were never even downloaded... Paul Emby Jo-Jo logs.7z
Luke 42077 Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 @Riptide126are you still having an issue with this?
Riptide126 24 Posted November 21, 2024 Author Posted November 21, 2024 Yes I still am, it is happening with some other shows as well. With a lot of the other shows I can work around it by switching the subtitles, and then while its playing I switch to the one that I want and it works. But for Jojo nothing seems to work as long as I want to use the ASS subtitles, it just keeps coming back with no compatible streams available.

Hi, can you give it another try on the latest Emby app version? Thanks.
Riptide126 24 Posted January 3, 2025 Author Posted January 3, 2025 Tried it again and had the same issue, I have attached the logs. I am currently in the process of migrating my server to a new machine that will be unraid instead of windows and also has a lot of hardware upgrades so when that is done I will let you know if anything changes. embyserver.txt 1
Riptide126 24 Posted January 14, 2025 Author Posted January 14, 2025 Ok so I have all my new hardware and am still having the same issue, to deal with it for the moment I have decided to allow subtitle extraction on the fly since it seems like the new machine is better at keeping up. The only issue is there are still some instances where the subs haven't loaded yet. 1
Riptide126 24 Posted January 17, 2025 Author Posted January 17, 2025 So along this same kind of topic, could someone explain how this all works I have allow subtitle extraction on the fly enabled, which makes it so that I dont get the compatible streams not available error, but also a lot of times when I start an episode, the subtitles just dont show up unless I pause it for a little bit. Sometimes I don't have to pause it at all sometimes I have to pause it for like 30 seconds or more before the subtitles show up. I also included some more settings that are probably relevant.
Luke 42077 Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 @Riptide126subtitle extraction on the fly is not instantaneous. It depends mainly on the disk I/O performance of the drives you have your media on.
Riptide126 24 Posted January 17, 2025 Author Posted January 17, 2025 Ok gotcha, so the reason it can take a second is more than likely because I am using 7200 rpm hdds to hold my media. So I think I would definitely prefer to burn in subtitles but I just get this error sometimes. For reference I have a ryzen 9 5950x and an rtx 3060 in the new system which I think should be plenty as far as processing power for burning in subtitles.
Riptide126 24 Posted January 17, 2025 Author Posted January 17, 2025 Is there any update on what is causing this error or a potential fix yet?
Luke 42077 Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 6 minutes ago, Riptide126 said: Any updates on this? Hi, as a test, if you disable hardware transcoding in server transcoding settings, then try to play, does that resolve the issue?
Riptide126 24 Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 No it does not, I can give logs if needed.
Riptide126 24 Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 (edited) I have been kinda fine up until this point because I just was using subtitle extraction on the fly, but now subtitle extraction on the fly is giving multiple subs at once which I have another issue opened for so it feels like I'm kinda damned whether I have subtitle extraction on the fly on or off. Edit: I realized that actually for both issues I have subtitle extraction on the fly off, but when I had subtitle extraction on the fly on I was having other issues like when I rewind or skip forward the subtitles would no longer be synced and sometimes the subtitles wouldn't load at the beginning of playback.
