Riptide126 24 Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 Consistently when I am watching a certain show the first time I try to play it it says there are no compatible streams available, then if I try again it runs fine. I am curious on how to fix this. Also the show is an anime so there are subtitles on it if that is relevant. I have also attached logs. If there is any other information needed let me know. ffmpeg-transcode-dcbeea36-a5a1-4d7c-a566-4846041dc001_1.txt
Luke 42077 Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 Hi there, please attach the corresponding emby server log. thanks.
Riptide126 24 Posted May 7, 2024 Author Posted May 7, 2024 Here ya go, thank you for the quick response embyserver.txt
Luke 42077 Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 Hi, as a test, if you disable subtitles prior to playback, does that resolve it?
Riptide126 24 Posted May 11, 2024 Author Posted May 11, 2024 Yes when I tried that it loaded instantly, so definitely related to subs
Riptide126 24 Posted June 30, 2024 Author Posted June 30, 2024 Any updates on this, I can do more tests if needed for troubleshooting
Luke 42077 Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Hi, it sounds like you disabled the server transcoding option to allow on the fly subtitle extraction. Please try re-enabling that and see if that helps. Thanks.
Riptide126 24 Posted July 6, 2024 Author Posted July 6, 2024 I did that and now the subtitles don't play at all
visproduction 315 Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 Could this be related to the media having a lot of subtitles and the code tries to process them all at the same time? I have often seen media with 30 subtitles. There is software that can remove the extra subtitles easily. 2 hour media can have excess subs removed and it takes perhaps 2 minutes.
Luke 42077 Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 Hi, are you still seeing this with Emby for iOS 2.2.23?
Riptide126 24 Posted July 26, 2024 Author Posted July 26, 2024 Yeah I get it on every platform, I am pretty sure that it is what @visproductionsaid because it has a lot of subs on each video file which is a bummer because I really don't feel like getting rid of them. I also had a similar issue on a different show and it also has 4 or 5 subtitles in it. If there is a way to fix this without me having to remove them that would be awesome. Otherwise I may just look to update my setup, I am running an i7-7700k and gtx 1070 so maybe it just can't keep up anymore.

Riptide126 24 Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 Sorry I am just getting back to you guys, yes I used that guide to set up my nginx config, if you would like to take a look at my configuration I can take out the sensitive portions, perhaps I did something wrong
guunter 49 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 With anime which uses .ass I had to switch to burning in subtitles. If you download the diagnostic plugin you get more subtitle options in advanced. I’d turn off subtitle extraction in transcoding and then select burn in subtitles in subtitle options. Just fyi it’ll will burn in subtitles using your cpu but a 7700k should be fine.
Riptide126 24 Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 I already have it set to those settings, I had the same issues because when I had subtitle extraction on the fly it just wouldnt display the subtitles at all, so I switched to forced burn in in the diagnostic options and disabled on the fly.

I'm not talking about the diagnostic tab. You shouldn't mess with those they don't persist on a restart. I'm talking about this
Riptide126 24 Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 Yeah thats what I was talking about, sorry I got confused because you said diagnostic plugin, I havent touched the diagnostic tab

Do you get the same issue if you use Emby from its ip? And is it just one specific anime? Which one and release group? Edited August 10, 2024 by guunter

pwhodges 2012 Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 (edited) I've downloaded that exact file (specifically, s02e01). It only has 7 subtitle streams, which is no big deal - some are ASS and some are PGS. The video bit rate is 37Mbps with another 2Mbps for the audio, which is high for an anime, and the default audio is 2.1 [sic] DTS-MA. I can't see anything odd about the ASS subs (they're quite intensive in their effects, but once they play, they play fine). It direct-plays with no issues on iOS 2.2.27 and Android 3.4.20. Playing in the Web client I got the same as the OP - the first attempt to play (with DTS audio and ASS subs) just hung, and then said no compatible streams; but then I tried with PGS and it played OK, and following that the ASS subs played OK as well (both burning in at the server for the web client). I can't repeat the initial issue right now; I presume the transcode has been cached and I need to kill it somehow before I can test what happens when the first play uses either PGS subs or the alternate Flac audio. The experiment started at 20:43 in the attached logs. Paul logs.zip Edited August 10, 2024 by pwhodges
