Working on iOS iPhone 13 now but it crashed. Don't know if it's because I was taking a screenshot or because of the cc's. Away from the server so I can't get a log but I did submit a crash report from my phone.

It's working fine now.

This is a situation with a certain flavor of closed captions.  To Emby, nothing about them appears different from the ones that work fine so we haven't yet discovered why Exoplayer cannot see them.

Maybe implement a player that does. IIR, @softworkzspent considerable effort a few years ago just getting CC's to work for the AndroidTV Emby App. I suppose I could use an external player but I think when doing that MX Player or VLC, one looses the ability to FFWD and RWD but maybe that's changed now?

I saw and installed updates to xmlTV and m3u Tuner Plugins today hoping they'd fix the issue. Still no CC's on Windows Store Emby Theater and Roku but I have not yet tested on AndroidTV. Either this update was unrelated or it didn't fix the issue.

If the intent of these updates was to fix this issue, I'll post logs otherwise I will not.

Again, the issue here is in Exoplayer - the Google player on the Android platform.  Those updates are unrelated.

Thanks for the info! Is is possible to use another player which supports the CC's and time shifting? I'm go to fiddle with MX ans VLC over the weekend and report back.

I should add it's not working on Roku or Emby Theater on Windows either. Working on iPhone 13 iOS and web player in Google Chrome.

FWIW, I did that a while back with not very useful results. I'll be interested to hear if you are more successful.

@ebrLooks like another thread to merge possibly? At any rate at least I'm not the only one! Maybe that feature request for TVE playback on Emby I posted five years ago can be revisited but I doubt that will change anything since the stream source is the same. The thing is, if Channels DVR can get the subs decoded correctly for these streams, why can't Emby?

I think I am having the same issue. I have several TV episodes with embedded EIA_608 subtitles. My PC can play and see them just fine in a browser, but when I watch on a Sony Google TV with your latest Emby Android app, I get the error: FAILED TO LOAD SUBTITLES. But again, they play fine on the PC.

What is the fix for this please?

 Thanks!

Hi.  Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares?

Thanks.

Is this the app you are referring to?

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mb.android&hl=en_US

I have 3 Google TVs in my home! 2 Sony Bravia and 1 TCL.

When I click on "install on more devices" I can only add it to 1 of my Sony TVs.

It seems on of my Sony TVs and the TCL already have this version, yet none can play these EIA_608 subtitles..

Any other suggestions?

What is the source of the TV episodes? Where they recorded from a TVE Stream from ChannelsDVR, an HDHomeRun Tuner or other tuner? In addition to the suggestion from @Luketo try the standard Android app you should post server, hardware detection and transcode logs plus submit a log from the AndroidTV app itself indicating the time of sending the log and the user name so the Developers can find your log.

Your result matches mine. Both the standard Android app and the AndroidTV app do not show the subtitles from some TVE Streams.

Hi.  That is expected at this point as both are using the same player.

All of the episodes in this torrent have the EIA_608 subtitles. They play on my browser but not on my Sony Google TV.

I wish there was a solution to this.  It affects my TVE shows, FrndlyTV, and an alternate provider.  HDHomerun Connect OTA stuff seems to still work.   The Channels DVR player works with all of these sources and is now what I use for Live TV.  Emby works a lot better for media collections though and I'd prefer a single solution.

This isn't just an Android client issue either.  The Roku client acts even worse.  I think CC is broken on pretty much every live source there including the HDHomerun streams.   And it's not just a matter of CC's not playing -- if you try to play them on the Roku then it'll lockup the channel on retries until you cancel the attempt and retune.

Hi, we're going to be updating exoplayer to the latest version very soon, so we'll see if that helps with this.
