DGMayor 90 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) Started discussion in the Dev thread, moving it here.. If I skip chapters, it resumes with no sound. If I stop it and try to resume or restart, the file will no longer play and I have to exit MBC and return. https://dl.dropboxus...e495d320686.log --- So just to touch on this, it happened again last evening. I had accidentally hit a button on my controller that I have mapped to ALT-F4 so it killed WMC. Normally if that happens I just load it back up and resume the show. Resume wasn't an option, so I started it over and tried to chapter jump to where I was. Jumped forward and there was no sound. Stopped the video and Resume wasn't an option and hitting play just flashed the screen a second. I then turned OFF the enhanced player and it played just fine with the internal player. --- Just to carry over my previous issue, with version 225 I'm now getting sound when I chapter jump but it's like a second or so of skipping audio. The rest is the same issue. -- This is all taking place with H.264 MKV's, various audio. No settings have changed, no codecs have changed in the past few months. No add-ons like media control. When I skip to a chapter and the issue occurs (Every MKV so far), I can stop it and resume it with MBT, Web, etc with no problem. For that matter, unless I'm mistaken, MBT is using the same codecs without an issue. if I pause the video, jump to a chapter, and then hit play, it plays fine. If I don't pause it first, I get either no audio or skipping audio and stopping the video won't resume/play until I exit the view and try again. Nothing has changed on my system other than the versions of server and MBC. No updates, no configuration changes, no codec changes, heck I don't even remember when the last windows update was. Works fine with AVI's, H.264 MP4's and WMV files. I've also noticed with the H.264 MKV files that when I load the video and hit chapter up, it will jump to like 3 or 4 chapters in, but with all other file types it will jump to the first chapter properly. DGMayor 90 Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) I don't seem to have the issue with H.264 MKV's with stereo sound. Just 5.1/DTS it seems... (sorry for the previous stream of consciousness - it's basically copy and paste from multiple posts on the dev board) Edited November 7, 2014 by DGMayor
ebr 16169 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I can't really see anything going wrong with what we are trying to do on our end. It is possible that this is an issue of the environment simply not being able to cope with what we are trying to do. When you play back in any other of those ways (MBT, VLC or even the normal WMC interface) the video card is being put into true full screen mode where the video is able to be controlled directly and much faster. In the new custom interface, however, this is not the case. We are overlaying all of WMC's normal graphics engine on top of the playing video. Honestly, when I first implemented this I really was expecting more issues like this to occur because of this but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it actually does work well in 90%+ of the cases. Maybe yours is just one where it doesn't Now, as one final thing to try, I've just noticed that you are actually using a set of old un-supported Throg themes. I'm not sure it will make any difference but can you un-install those (really uninstall them, not just select another theme) and try with one of our more up to date ones (Chocolate would be best) and see if it makes any difference?
DGMayor 90 Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 It's just weird to me that I had absolutely no issues until around version 224 or so. I have tested it in Chocolate and Xenon, but haven't removed Throg's themes. Just removed the themes and tested. Same issue. Again, worked great for months. Nothing changed but MB3 program versions. Don't know what to say. I hate problems with no answers lol.
DGMayor 90 Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 Oh and it's a Core i5 2500k, 8gb RAM, and an Nvidia 470. It's not top of the line but no slouch either.
DGMayor 90 Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 Just noticed Lav Filters had an update a month ago, so tried that, but no change.
ebr 16169 Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 I've gone back through all the commits since 207 and the only thing I've found that could possibly be related is the fact that I reduced the reporting interval to the server during playback from 5 to 3 seconds. This would mean more "stuff" is going on during playback and, maybe, that extra work is enough to cause you a problem like this. Seems like a reach but I'll build a dev version today with the 5 second reporting and you can test it out and see if it makes a difference.
DGMayor 90 Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 Appreciate it. I noticed Lav Filters had an update a month ago, so tried that, but no change. Also, typing in a number and hitting play or fast forward works fine, it's strictly chapter jumping on mkv's that are 5.1.
DGMayor 90 Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 So I upgraded to 232, no change. I decided to upgrade my video/audio drivers (nvidia). After that, it was working! In Windows 7, I went into my playback device properties and changed the speaker layout from stereo to 5.1, went back into MBC and it was broken again! I set it back to stereo, and chapter skipping worked again. I still have the issue where when I first click chapter up on an MKV with 5.1 of any kind that the audio skips for a second and it jumps to chapter 4 or 5 or 6, something well past the first chapter, but I can still move it back to where I want it and it works. Any other file format I hit chapter up and it smoothly shows the new interface and has the fist chapter highlighted. It's working, but I'm still stumped as to why.
