aguevarra25 0 Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 Hi, I'm trying to edit the port number on the port screen through the Apple TV Emby app. I have deleted and reinstalled the Emby app several times. I have turned the Apple TV on and off. I have made sure the Apple TV system is up to date. When on the port screen, I am not shown any numbers, just this line that is to the far left of the screen. When I click the main button on the Apple TV remote it apparently hits "1" but there is no way to move said line, delete the "1" or enter any other number and press enter in any way. IMG_8239.MOV
aguevarra25 0 Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 (edited) I cannot select anything from this screen, except click the remote button, and it enters a "1". The video I uploaded shows the line on the left blurring, that is me trying to move the line/select anything, to no avail. Except to click and enter "1". Edited April 12, 2024 by aguevarra25
SamES 1056 Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 I'm not sure why you're not seeing any on-screen keyboard as this is native and should be being automatically displayed. It also looks like your screen size is incorrect - everything on the screen should be centered. What ATV device type and tvOS version are you using? What is the TV resolution and is the resolution set correctly in the ATV settings?
aguevarra25 0 Posted April 14, 2024 Author Posted April 14, 2024 (edited) I'm using 4th gen ATV Model A1625, tvOS 17.4 TV is Samsung UN50MU6300 3804x2160 UHD/4k/2160p Resolution in ATV is 1080p HD - 59.94Hz Attached is a photo of what the "connect to server" screen looks like, I'm assuming the port screen should look the same? SamES 1056 Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 (edited) What type of remote are you using? Port keyboard should be similar, but this doesn't look right. Can you change the ATV to 2160? 6 hours ago, aguevarra25 said: Resolution in ATV is 1080p HD - 59.94Hz Edited April 14, 2024 by SamES
aguevarra25 0 Posted April 15, 2024 Author Posted April 15, 2024 (edited) Using the remote (I think Model A1962 ) that comes with the ATV Model A1625. Have also used the remote on my iPhone to enter numbers with success, but cannot move to connect or move the select "line" anywhere else, the blurry line on Port screen remains in the same place. Unable to change res to 2160. I tried playing around with different res' on ATV and TV and still no change to Port screen. Edited April 15, 2024 by aguevarra25
SamES 1056 Posted April 15, 2024 Posted April 15, 2024 There is actually an issue in both of your screen shots. In the server entry, you should be seeing the full server url on screen, and for the port entry there should be a row of numbers (keypad) under the text entry box. However, I don't understand your comment. Why can't you change this to 4k/2160 in the AppleTV setup? What happens when you try? Maybe you have a faulty HDMI cable. Can you please try another cable If this problem still occurs using a new cable then please try and uninstall the Emby app from the ATV, reboot the ATV and try installing it again
aguevarra25 0 Posted April 16, 2024 Author Posted April 16, 2024 I cannot change to 4k/2160 in ATV settings. Only shows 1080p as highest res. I have changed the HDMI cable with a 4k capable cable with still no change. Have uninstalled, rebooted, reset several times. I'm not sure if the issue is with the ATV or the ATV Emby app. I was able to download the Emby app on my SamsungTV and was able to sign in fine and stream. I am now using the app on the SamsungTV and not the ATV which isn't ideal, but it works.
SamES 1056 Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 Is the AppleTV connected directly to the TV, or is it connected to a receiver via HDMI which is then connected to the TV? Personally, I prefer the Samsung App over the ATV app as it generally DirectPlays a broader range of files without any transcoding. I'd be interested in your thoughts on the pros/cons after you've used it for a while
ZanderKeen 72 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I am having the same issue. The numbers for entering the port do not exist. If i spam click the arrows sometimes i can see a 6 floating on the side where the numbers should be to type. I even tried to change my server to listen on 8096 but when I did that, all I get is an error that it cannot connect to the server. My server is reachable on all other devices, androids, linux, laptops, windows, roku devices, android tv boxes. But the two apple 4k tv boxes don't let me type the port as the keyboard buttons on the left side are non-existant and even if i change the port on the physical server to 8096 and open firewall ports, and verify all other devices can still connect to it on the new port, the apple tv boxes still do not connect. I cannot test this using the web URL as I have to change my port number and that is impossible at the moment with the Emby app on apple tv. We are switching to Apple TV and I wasn't intending on loosing Emby as my media platform on my server.
SamES 1056 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Are using the original ATV remote or a different remote control?
ZanderKeen 72 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I don't understand how that would make a difference. It is not the original Siri remote.
ZanderKeen 72 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 @SamESI even bypassed my AdGuard DNS server completely and its using cloudflare. No luck. Everything else seems to be working fine even plex.

Everything else seems to be working fine even plex. Hi, but don't you want a personal media server and not one that puts all of your information into the cloud? Remember that Plex has a relay service that will route everything through their servers. This automatically kicks in anytime a direct connection isn't possible. So this might be the only reason why Plex is working for you. But from what I've seen from most users, once they learn that it's working that manner, they don't like the idea of that happening.

ZanderKeen 72 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 @Luke wow. I didn't say I was going to jump over to Plex and throw away emby just like that. I am just saying the Plex app worked when I tested that. Its troubleshooting. I don't use Plex on my actual media server. All the other apps seem to be working. I am just trying to see if anyone else has the same issue, which it seems others do, so if they have a workaround to make emby work I will try it. I just want it to work like it does with all the other platforms so I can watch my media like I have been. As for The remote part, I just stated I don't see how the type of remote would make a difference of the app displaying the numbers on the GUI on screen as seen in my images. Only one number appears where all of the numbers should be. That's the location where the visual keyboard goes on the screen. If the remote causes the numbers to not get displayed then you can say that. I posted here looking for answers that could help because I cannot proceed with setup right now.
Luke 42077 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 OK, are you able to try the original remote just for testing purposes?
ZanderKeen 72 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 @LukeiI really wish I could. My friend mailed me the ATV boxes but I had to order the remotes myself. So I cannot.

ATV changes the on screen keyboard layout depending on the remote you use. With the original ATV remote it displays a single number row below the entry box instead of the keypad on the LHS. That’s why I asked the question. Unfortunately knowing this , I still can’t reproduce the issue on my device with the keypad on the LHS. if you have the original remote, can you give that a try. You might need to force close the app to retry it. What screen resolution do you have set in the ATV video settings?
ZanderKeen 72 Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 I'm using the Dolby 1080p 60hz resolution. I tried changing it to 720p 59hz same results if that helps any. I had to step away for dinner and a mental break. I'll poke around at it some more in a little while. I might just order a siri remote then if I don't have any luck tonight.

I suspect that might be part of the problem that this screen is not rendering correctly at 1080. What tv are you connecting to? It’s not a 4K tv?
ZanderKeen 72 Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 @SamES Well I moved the ATV box to a different TV which is my 4K display and it is giving the same exact results. The video format is 4K HDR 60Hz 65". I also tried a different remote but it is unfortunately the same type of remote. I also tried the other 3 boxes and all give me the same results as in the pics I posted earlier today and similar to the OP. I guess I will have to order a Siri remote to get them programed for Emby... All of my other apps are working without issues; Hulu, Tubi, Netflix, Plex, Disney+, Pluto, Apple tv, freevee, discovery+, local now, xumo, & crackle; if that helps any. The devices are Apple TV 4K A1842 1
