Hi @Luke I hope you are well and relaxed on vacation. When you have some time can you see if we can solve this problem? My little nephew every time he wants to watch the videos I shoot him with the phone, to see them straight he rotates his whole head 😉  thx

Hi all, I just install emby on one other different NAS type QNAP. I immediately tested the rotate problem just to see if in this version the problem was fixed But nothing.

The problem is present also on QNAP version 😞

If there any news to solve it?

thx

Hi,

Have a quick read through this thread and see if you can supply any of the information the devs have repeatedly asked for, to help them diagnose and create a solution.

I am on the latest docker image(4.8.10.0) and the latest version of android mobile(3.4.20) and android tv philips(2.1.21g). I have the same problems described in previous posts. Direct playback on android mobile is fine, transcoding is rotated, while in android tv playback is rotated but thumbnails are displayed correctly.

@wodaaaplease attach logs.

To a point it is a known reproducible issue.

Can say removing -noautorotate via diagnostic plugin works via Software transcoding but not hardware.

Hi I’m having the same issue. I have Emby server 4.8.10.0 on my desktop and 2.1.23a on my fire stick. All home videos that were taken on my iPhone in portrait show up 90 degrees rotated on my LG tv. How do I fix?

There is a known issue and is not fixed yet - but it is limited to transcoded playback. Direct Play should be ok

Are you accessing the server remotely ?

Yes the media is on my desktop (in another room of the same home) and I am viewing on my LG tv (using the Emby app) on the same network. The Emby app (or server - I’m not sure which is doing the playing) is not correctly detecting the orientation of the source video. Sounds like there is no fix at this point. Is this on the docket for the next big fix?  Doesn’t t seem like a difficult problem to resolve?

If playback is using Direct Play and not transcoding then it is a different issue from the one I mentioned.

You can establish from the Emby Web dashboard if the playback on the LG TV is Direct Playing or Transcoding.

Can you check that you are on the latest version of the Emby LG app. According to this post, the latest version is:

Emby Theatre for LG Smart TV
Stable: 1.0.45 (2025/01/02)

What LG TV Model ?

I can check if we are transcoding or direct playing if you provide server logs and giving me the time of the test. See How to Report a Problem

Look for embyserver log file and also ffmpeg log file

Attached is the latest 2 log files yo asked for. Just to clarify - although I have an LG TV, I am running the Emby app on the Amazon Firestick. The versions of software are: Emby server 4.8.10.0 on my desktop and 2.1.23a on my fire stick. When I run the videos through Emby on my desktop they run fine. When I run them through the Firestick on my TV all those shot in portrait (from theiphone) are rotated 90 degrees and stretched.

embyserver.txt 41.59 kB · 0 downloads ffmpeg-directstream-2fbd1b8c-a365-49da-9bcb-529879b117f2_1.txt 12.34 kB · 0 downloads

And what does Emby show for Media Info on this item?  As I see no Rotation data for the item.  As every client has a different player that handles this info differently.

As my tests above direct play fine and rotate improperly while transcoding via a web browser.

I have reproduced the problem on the Amazon Fire TV using app version 2.1.23a when direct playing a portrait video.

I will see if I can test with the v2.1.26 beta and will compare with the Emby for Android universal app

Posted

@PMahboubi I have referred the diagnostics I captured to the development team. The portriat video played with wrong orientation when direct playing on the Amazon Fire TV with versions 2.1.23a, beta 2.1.26a an the universal android mobile app 3.4.36. This is a separate issue from the one we knew about when transcoding.

Thank you for reporting the problem

Ok excellent thank you. I’ll wait for the next update from your team.

I will double check now if we still have an issue for portrait videos on the Samsung app when direct playing. The previous investigations showed a problem only when transcoding by the Emby Server and this affected all devices. I am afraid there is still no fix for this transcoder issue.

Thanks @sa2000I think you'll find it's still a problem for DirectPlay, but we now force them to rotate with transcoding.  However, as you have highlighted there is still an issue with the transcoder

Thanks. Yes - I see that we are are forcing transcode. Will follow it up.
