Morshu 4 Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 Hi! Using latest version of Emby for Android TV (from the store) with the latest Emby server for Synology NAS (64 bit). ebr 16169 Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Hi. Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.
Morshu 4 Posted March 25, 2024 Author Posted March 25, 2024 Hi, and thanks for the reply. I tried your advice, but it's no better when sideloading the other app, although slightly different. With the Android TV app I just get a black screen, the player says it is direct playing (which it should): With the sideloaded Android app you linked to, I get choppy play with washed out colors (don't know if it comes through in the screenshot): Also, I'm a bit confused about the sideloaded app, it says I'm restricted to 1 minute of play, should it do that? My Android TV app is unlocked...
FrostByte 5392 Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Are all the files that don't work HEVC level 6.x? Does your TV/device support it? Just looking at new Samsung's I see they only support 4K up to HEVC level 5.1 and HEVC level 6.x is reserved for 8K. Video Decoder Limitations H.264 FHD: Level 4.2 supported (FMO/ASO/RS not supported). H.264 UHD: Level 5.1 supported, seamless resolution change supported up to 3840x2160. Morshu 4 Posted June 23, 2024 Author Posted June 23, 2024 Hi! Sorry for the late reply, had to re-test this, and also updated Emby server to the latest version prior to doing so. Unfortunately, the files I reported still don't play on Emby. The same context as I made in my original post applies, i.e. I use Nvidia shield pro for playback, the files play fine on PLEX, but I can't get them to work on Emby for Android TV.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 And is Plex Direct Playing them also? Without specific methods it is impossible to say and may need Transcoding for the defective encoded method. Potentially need logs also. 1

ebr 16169 Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 @MorshuIf you enable "Show extended media information" in the settings of the Android TV app and scroll down to the media info cards on the detail page, what does the "Level" show for one that works and one that doesn't?
Morshu 4 Posted June 28, 2024 Author Posted June 28, 2024 Sorry for the late reply, I am not home so much during the summer, so couldn't test right away. For a file that works it says: Level 153 For a file that doesn't work it says: Level 186 1
reas11 2 Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 Having the same issue of no video and only sound. For me it's with files that are rips from Bravia core such as the enhanced IMAX files. They play fine in Kodi, VLC and Plex. It's only a Emby issue on Shield
bearzilla333 2 Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 I too am having this issue now, HEVC not playing on my Nvidia Shield, I am using the side loaded standard app.

rbjtech 5284 Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 (edited) 130Mbit/sec bitrate ... ? HEVC Profile is good. Are you playing back via wired (1Gig on Shield) or wireless ? Kodi and VLC will be playing back via SMB/File - Plex I'm not sure. The Shield is more than capable of playing 130Mbit - but if your server cannot handle the conversion to HTTP or you do not have enough bandwidth, then it may be that issue here - difficult to see without a log. Edited July 25, 2024 by rbjtech
smgsmagus 0 Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 I have just tested freshly updated LG WebOS Emby app and file plays there without any issues. Still hangs on Shield after 1 second ( audio plays, video freeze).

So unless that changes, I really don't see direct play of this media working out very well.
Morshu 4 Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 Although since these files play fine on Plex, I have hard time seeing the hardware limitation here... And no, there is no re-encoding going on as I don't have a plex pass (nor hw capable server), so that's gotta be direct play.

And no, there is no re-encoding going on as I don't have a plex pass (nor hw capable server), so that's gotta be direct play. Specs were posted so if you don't go by manufacture spec then I don't see how play back can be expected. Have no idea what the other guy do though. But you already stated anything above @L5.1 does not play correctly. Devs would have to comment more as all I can do is go off documentation.
