Yea, very sad.  No interest in scale/linux for my server here.  So "worst" case scenario i just throw full blown freebsd on my nas.  Might poke at xigma.  But on the other hand It's looking fairly likely that it's going to be forked,  not sure whether they'll wait till core goes eol or whatever- but I'm keeping my eye out.

What do you have against Linux?

The zealotry, the license fanaticism, the gnu org and their userland tools?  Fair number of things i'm not a fan of.  I don't completely hate slackware or alpine ,for example but shrug.  My *nix exposure went from SvR4 to free/net/openbsd with a smattering of solaris,  linux just has never been compelling for me.

I'll echo bolok. I'll be monitoring the fork. I contributed to it when it was FreeNAS before iX took over and I'll be happy to switch to the new fork, what ever it is called.

They're going all-in on TrueNAS Scale.

Luke, what is the Emby team's stance on FreeBSD? Does this change anything, or will you still provide a build for FreeBSD after they no longer provide updates for jails through TrueNAS?

I'm thinking at some point, though not anytime soon, the old jail we would be running will cause a problem with a future version of Emby.

I'm considering using their upgrade tool that does an in place upgrade from FreeBSD to Debian. Did it on a VM in a lab, and it was pretty impressive how easy it was.

We are not going to arbitrarily choose to end support for the FreeBSD package, so you have nothing to worry about from us. We will continue to produce it for as long as we can and will only stop when something forces us to.

For example, I suspect that support from external tools that we depend on will start to drop off, then sooner or later something will break, and that's when it might be the end of it. But hopefully that doesn't happen anytime soon.

Jails as a concept are not reliant on truenas, they are a core freebsd feature.  Ix has given up on plugins which are an attempt to package jailed apps. i'd look into converting your plugin installs into jails.  If you're savvy with bsd ,the emby directions to install on freebsd are basically good to go if you create a jail and run the freebsd commands in the jail.   But it's way more work than hit button to install :(
