Recording ignoring stop 5 mins after when possible

I keep getting the end of shows cut off.  I have set stop 5 minutes after as the default and on individual series.  It gets ignored.  I'm not sure where it's coming from but, in the guide the show may be an hour but, some episodes are recording an hour and 10 minutes; others are recording 51 minutes.  My wife loves shows like the Voice.  She hates it when she can't see the end.
