I don't have enough good test samples, so it would be good to confirm it with your files to confirm that it solves your issue. Just make a test video of something random, test that it is upside down for you, then PM me a link to somewhere I can download it from.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 @SamES does the change exist in Emby for Samsung 1.7.0 or new versions?

We do already have it in the client as a manual rotation based on the metadata, so if the server has been updated and the metadata refreshed then it should be working. If I get a sample, I'll see if we can improve this using the native methods on newer models to avoid a dependency on the metadata. 15 hours ago, Robnaeyaert said: Hello. My server is 4.8.6 and I refreshed my metadata and the problem still exists. again the thumbnail is correct and it plays correctly in VLC but is upside down in Emby. Any ideas - this is annoying. thanks. @Robnaeyaert If you check the video stream info on the server after the refresh, does it now show a rotation parameter like my example here? Can you try the latest USB version that was published today? The rotation should be correct, but I suspect that the image will be badly cropped. That will need a fix on the server which should occur in the future. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/raw/master/tizen/tizen.zip

We have a fix that involves rotating it on the server before playback, and that is in the USB version released this week. There is still an issue with the video being cropped when it is rotated, but that will need a server fix to resolve it which I hope will come soon.

Can you please confirm the first point - 'is there a rotation value shown for the medias video stream on the server' as this is also critical?

As Luke advised, please check the same way that you did here: We need to confirm that after the update there are now the correct rotation values. @Luke@SamESThis issue is still ongoing on my Emby system. I have no idea what you are talking about regarding "Correct Rotation Values" - I see no settings at all on "rotation". I do see "Lock", "Playback Speed" etc etc but I can not for the life of me see any setting for rotation. Take a look at the latest upload of my home video on my iPhone where the Thumbnail is the correct way up but the video plays upside down. I'm beyond frustrated as I'm sure there is a simple fix for this. This example below is a video captured on my iPhone 13 loaded on my EMBY server just weeks ago and then streaming that on my Emby IOS 2.2.35 app and it plays the wrong way up (THIS EXAMPLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY EARLIER SAMSUNG TV EXAMPLE OF THE SAME PROBLEM). Can *ANYONE* please help as I'm tearing my hair out. Am I recording the wrong way up on my iPhone (as I assumed it doesn't matter) or is there a setting I'm missing? ARHG! Many thanks
SamES 1056 Posted March 13, 2025 Posted March 13, 2025 In your screenshot, can you please show us all the information in the panel called 'Video' that is just visible in the bottom right corner. This is the video media info that we've previously asked about. Thanks

I dont know where to edit that? Is there somewhere I can edit it to make it "0" please? Edited March 14, 2025 by Robnaeyaert
SamES 1056 Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 (edited) Perfect, thanks. The ‘Rotation -180’ is the important part. That means the server knows it needs to be rotated, but we do still have some issues with correctly rotating some movies so I expect it will be fixed when that is resolved. OK thanks for the context but I think I recall this thread going on for next to a year which is partly my fault as I have a pretty hectic life/work etc and only came back to this issue now due to a recent video upload to my emby server.. So aside from a 'server fix' is there anything I can do to fix this as it seems weird that no matter what way my iPhone is oriented the video plays correctly but on EMBY it doesn't? Is there some other way I can easily fix this apart from some video editing tools to get Emby to play the videos the right way? I ONLY shoot family videos on my iPhone....I usually shoot with the volume keys "up" - is that the problem????? I cant find anything on the net on that bit Do you know how long that "fix" might be please @SamES?? Edited March 14, 2025 by Robnaeyaert
SamES 1056 Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 You could try turning the phone around and do a test video. Regarding timing, I'm not really sure on that, sorry.

Robnaeyaert 17 Posted June 30, 2025 Author Posted June 30, 2025 (edited) Hello EMBY and @Luke I've had this issue *FOREVER* and I'm losing the will to live. Last time I posted someone said this might be a bug with the server but I have no resolution I'm using Server 4.8.11.0 (and if someone asks me to upload a log file I'm going to scream because this must be the 5th post I've made to get this fixed). Please check my previous posts. What happens is this:- I have a tonne of home videos loaded on my EMBY library taken over the years from my iphone of my kids and I'd dearly love to watch them on my Samsung TV via EMBY without standing on my head. On the Metadata I notice there is a "rotation -180" but I only see that when I "refresh metadata". When I play the video as a raw video file on the server (not via Emby) the file plays PERFECTLY. Note image below "How it plays on the Server". To reiterate - this is playing perfectly when using the Windows 11 video apps like VLC, Photo, etc to play the file. No issue whatsoever. It's *ONLY* when I use Emby on my server (using the Browse Media) or on my Samsung TV EMBY App it *****PLAYS UPSIDE DOWN****** When I play the same file on my IOS EMBY app it plays "PERFECTLY" the correct way. Someone said in a many of my prior posts to "refresh the metadata" which I have done. They also said this was a bug and would be fixed. I can not watch my home videos. I am sad I am losing the will to live - can someone PPPPPPPPPPPPPLEAASEEE help me? Cheers Rob Edited June 30, 2025 by Robnaeyaert
