Now Unable to use "Restrict Items With Tags" for Collections

In the recent past I was able to have Collections that have a certain tag restricted in Parental Controls for a specific user. Now I am unable to blocks Collections from showing for a user. Restrict Items With Tags does still works for individual items such as movies and shows.

I use the Bulky Editor plugin to add tags for collections. I have used these tags for a long while to restrict but now Parental Controls just ignore the Collections.

The reason I do this is I use the smart playlist plugin to create different collections for different users.

I am currently on Version 4.8.3.0 and this has been an issue since getting 4.8.

Thanks for any insight.

Yes as these virtual items are outside the scope of Parental Controls as empty Collection exist when all items are restricted also.

Pretty sure the devs are still looking at quirks like this.

Just so I understand, are you saying this is a new issue that they are probably aware of? Because I know this used to work for me just as soon as a month or so ago.

Yes it is a new issue in 4.8 that affects Collections, Genre, Tags and other area.

Most were identified by resticting content and still seeing Empty Collections, Tags, Genres.  But in you case blocking by tag on Collection just no longer works.

OK, thanks for the info. I couldn't find anything specific about it. I will assume it is going to get corrected. 😉

Does the user have access to any content within the collection?

Yes the user has access to everything that is in the collection that doesn't have it's own restricted tag. Emby respects the restricted tags for the individual items as expected.

I want to make sure this isn't misunderstood. The ability to hide the collection entry itself from the collections view used to work. It never hid the individual items (movies, TV shows) from the users library view.

Thanks.

So what is the use case for hiding a specific collection?

I create collections for different users of my server that I only want viewable by them. I may create a "Recommended Movies Collection" for my son and his family and I don't want this collection to show for other users or even myself. I also use the Smart Playlist plugin to create different collections that I use for my ErsatzTV Server (Live channels) or for sharing with different users and I don't want these to show up for other users or on my Kodi. On my Kodi I just want the Movie sets to show and none of the other collections I have made for others. I used to be able to mark these collections with the tag no_kodi and restrict them for my kodi user and it would keep the collection out of view. That was really nice.

It's less about hiding movies with this use case but more about having the ability to use Collections for specific users without having everyone's collections view full of other people's collections. Hiding certain collections.

I hope that makes sense.
