Jägs 85 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Apologies if I missed this topic elsewhere—a quick search did not yield any results—but I have a large music collection and have been manually creating playlists for a variety of purposes. It recently dawned upon me that generative AI is pretty good about creating playlists—especially historical ones, like top-100 charts—so I've been playing around with a few tools, but most require subscriptions to streaming services. What I would LOVE to see is if Emby could incorporate such a feature, since it already has all of my meta data for music, it would "just" be a matter coordinating with an AI tool to get the playlist information and then build it in Emby itself (realizing that "just" is doing a metric ton of heavy lifting, here). As a side note: if anyone has had any luck exporting Emby's meta data into a generative AI tool for this purpose, please let me know. Thanks for your consideration!
Luke 42078 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 HI, yes, smart playlists are planned for future updates. Thanks.

While potentially related, I don't see this as that request. "Smart Playlists" are going to be configurable groups based on criteria from the user and metadata in Emby. I see this request as specifically asking for integration with the new AI models to use their functionality to generate an actual music (or, I guess video) playlist. This could be one option within our Smart Playlists, but it is definitely a different animal IMO. OP, please correct me if I'm misunderstanding.
Luke 42078 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Right, understood. Ultimately they are both playlists based on an algorithm.

Sounds cool, do you have some examples of the tools. 6 hours ago, Jägs said: As a side note: if anyone has had any luck exporting Emby's meta data into a generative AI tool for this purpose, please let me know. Interesting idea, you might be able to use something like RAG (retrieval augmented generation) to produce a list but I expect the prompt and tokens would blow out very quickly with large collections. Also all current high capacity LLM services are pay for use at the moment (i.e. OpenAI) so that would have to be taken into consideration. There are some local LLM inferencing generation tools available, I had some good luck with a local running LLM with GPU acceleration that was giving me 13 tokens per seconds of inferencing, it was with a reasonable small language model but was giving good results so we are getting there, here is the link to the tool if you are interested in that sort of thing: https://lmstudio.ai/

While both algorithmically generated, I'm was specifically interested in leveraging an AI to do this; however, if the original concept of a smart playlist can generate the types of playlists in which I'm interested (e.g., 1985 top 100), then I'm interested in that, too.

I looked up a couple in the iOS App Store, but each one required a subscription to a streaming service (i.e., Spotify, Apple Music, etc.). Here's the one that looked the most promising. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ai-playlist-maker-playlistai/id1631703551
