Clackdor 109 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 I'm debating on upgrading my server from an i7 7700k to an i5 12th Gen and I'm curious if anyone else has done similar and whether or not it's worth it. I know 12th Gen and higher support more concurrent transcodes. Could I also expect faster transcodes per session? I'm on windows server 2022 and I'm running some hyper-v VM's and other services in addition to emby. I have a fair amount of 4k and 1080p content mostly in H264 and H265. Most 4k content is HDR, so tone mapping when transcoding is a factor. Several clients need to transcode due to either not supporting HDR, external users, etc.
RanmaCanada 494 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Yes it is, but if you want to save money, just buy an Intel Arc GPU. 2
