well almost, it's been another two weeks, are we just being ignored? is this how support works for paying customers?

Any progress on this? We are paying for something that is broken....

I'm seriously looking at migrating to jellyfin, which is at least free...

With version 4.8.11.0 the bug still exists 🥲.

It's only been 1 year since this thread was stared, the anniversary was yesterday.

In one year you could watch the extended Lord of Rings triology 784 times.... But not with transcoding working properly.

A year for a bug fix on paid feature, with minimal communication while being ignored

What's the safe word, how do we stop this?

It is very frustrating to pay for a service that is not provided. They don't even respond...

I'll wait a couple of weeks, then I'll probably migrate to jellyfin.

I'm sad, because I've been using emby for 2 years and the client is better than jellyfin, but for me transcoding is absolutely necessary and I can't be disabling subtitles in the client or applying a temporary fix that doesn't work for me...

So unfortunately I'll have to move to a visually inferior, but usable alternative...

Better plex, dont have this transcoding problem, and not black screen on 4k - FireTV

Does this only happen when displaying graphical subs?
Does it happen if there are graphical subs present in the media file but not used?

Transcoding is working ok, but no throttling, correct?

Pretty sure it will all come back to hls subs per the testing on page 2/3.  As a lot of subtitle suffer never made it into 4.8 that was being worked on back then.

Then the ui still needing a switch for ByStreamBufferSize/BySegmentRequest as you can only change via the api.

Any update on this bug?

In this case, I see a solution to do with  the remux the media and an script that could be used to reset info regarding media transcoding and cache.

This is a media based issue that does not happen with other media, it really is more of a feature request to have some process to clean up playback issues with media that have active, "on" SubRip PGS subtitles plus certain combination of high res video and audio and maybe even the TV model or Wifi connection interference may also trigger transcoding.  A fast network is great, but that's not everything involved in issues.

It similar to a feature request to playback Dolby surround better.  You can call it a bug, but for most users who don’t have this combination codecs video / audio + SubRip subtitles, don’t run into this issue.

It’s really important to include logs and details with a nice QA step by step report, so the problem can be replicated.  When I do QA for business and the dev team cannot replicate a report, it doesn’t go any further.  It just gets thrown back and asks for a step by step process with any media examples so the issue can be seen.

This forum post really took a long time to get enough information to even duplicate the problem.  That why logs and examples are requested.  Skipping this just makes trying to diagnose the issue many times more difficult.  I understand not everyone does QA for a living.  Trying to explain a complex issue is tricky.  It is more helpful to actually respond with requested information and logs, rather than suggesting that it doesn't matter.

It's not really a feature request, because it was working fine, for years. Then an update broke it.

That's a bug, which has now existed for over a year and affects huge portions of people's libraries.

Also, throttling working properly via the GPU is a paid feature, which isn't working.

Edit:
As for reporting properly, we was told on 4 separate occasions over 8 months that they are "looking in to it" . which to me, tells me they have enough information

True it is a change in behavior that happened in 4.8 release as everything was not ported into 4.8 release related to all the subtitle changes that were happening is my understanding.

What are you talking about??????

Details and logs have been provided for different environments, with various playback devices, different graphics cards, content shared via Google Drive where the problem occurs, etc., and no response has been received.

Aha... Sorry... the first 3 pages have a lot of logs.  I was looking at the last two pages of the forum post.  There were a lot of mentions where media worked direct play for a while and then suddenly started transcoding on the same media.  Of course, if that issue was fine on a previous release for the exact same media, then this is a bug.  It's obviously difficult to pin down.  Has someone shared a media file example where the error always happens and was fine in a previous release?  Can everyone already replicate the problem?  It's hard to tell from so many posts if the problem is easy to recreate.

The reason there is so many posts is because it was reported over a year ago and hasn't be fixed, the best we have got in that time is

"We are looking into it"

Repeated to us 4 times and that's it. So we are all a bit miffed.

Yep as devs get pull into many different directions so which one takes priority?  As this is a conditional but that does not affect all or should say only subtitle users.

Sometimes we don't have a choice to use subtitles, like when there a non-english scene or Toshi from American Dad

It is completely irrelevant which users are affected, it is a premiere paid feature. Maybe put two words together, premiere & priority ?
