Episodes with blank parental ratings don't show

I apologize in advance if this behavior is documented somewhere. I searched but did find it, so I wanted to post in case it helps anyone else.

I recently added a new series to Emby with two seasons - sixteen episodes total. After scanning my library, the series appeared... but with only four episodes. After a lot of head scratching I eventually discovered that the parental ratings for all the missing episodes shows blank in the metadata manager. In my user permissions under Parental Control, my maximum allowed parental rating was set to "AO/RP/UR/NR/X/XXX"  which I thought would have been all inclusive. By clearing the max allowed parental rating (i.e. setting it to blank) my problem was resolved. All 16 episodes are now showing.

I don't know if this is intended behavior. It was unintuitive to me, so I wanted to share.

HI, it will inherit the rating from the series. Does the series have a rating?

Does is physically inherit the rating?

I was looking at the metadata for each episode and it shows a blank value. the reason I can is because Smart playlist 2.0 plugin is not recognizing episodes without a physical value in the parental rating field.

Normally there is no rating on episode and is inherited from series level but does not display or get written to lower levels.  But TVDB does get really mixed results with episodes having content ratings now so there can be a mix of information now.

Someone else will have to comment if this is only related to Smart playlist plugin.

Well since only one of the TV shows has physical parental data for each episode and it is the only show displayed under the playlist plugin, I will have to find an alternative way to do it.

Thanks for confirming what I expected.

Yes I see you found the script topic as that is your only choice besides manually applying to every episode.  Or going to provider side and applying per episode.

The plug-in will have to add support for the inheritance.

I guess the question becomes do you get the same results making the playlist yourself without the plugin?

@Lukewouldn't the item maintain its inheritance when put in a playlist?  But have never really tested items in Playlists and Parental controls.

But I guess if the plugin is querying for specific rating it would have to look at parent level to actually put the episode in a smart playlist.

Maintain inheritance in order to do what though?

I guess if the plugin is looking at episode then they would never be seen as an option do to conditions as the info does not exist at that level.
