OnnoVogel 0 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 I just found out that all my movies are vanished on my tablet. Series are still here... No log yet, perhaps later. I download them to my SD card but I can't find where the app is actually saving the files.
Terry82 1 Posted May 10, 2024 Posted May 10, 2024 Here is a log file fromlog.txt a couple days ago where it started deleting my downloaded files.
GeoffBoyle 0 Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 I seem to have this issue, currently away from home and both mine and my wife's android tablets have lost all downloads.
flintthuang 0 Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 This happens to me too, been putting up with this bug for a long time now
cshadduck 0 Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 Yup...Im another one experiencing this issue recently. I can't say for sure but it seems to be an issue when downloading to external storage. I have a few examples that seem to indicate this. My parents downloaded movies to their tablet, external storage a couple months ago. While they were on vacation a few weeks later they found no downloads. I tried working with them while they were traveling, verifying when they were downloaded and to which device. Their external storage was in fact wiped, so not only were they not showing up in Emby, but they were deleted from the SD card. My kid has a tablet as well, and we put a 400gb SD card in it so she would always have downloaded content. There were dozens of movies and TV shows downloaded to the SD card without issue for 6+ months. About a week after dealing with my parents tablet we were on a roadtrip and tried to bring up the downloads for my kid to watch, and sure enough everything was wiped. Emby showed no downloads. The SD card has 30mb used, when there was over 100gb used before. Now, my wife's phone has a couple movies downloaded. She has had it downloaded for probably a year now and it is still there. We played these downloads while on a recent roadtrip without issue. This being internal storage as her phone does not have external storage. Both Emby and Plex have failed to produce a reliable app when it comes to downloads, however, Emby had a good run for us for the past year or so until recently. It is looking like unless you download to internal storage, which really sucks because of storage limitations on tablets/phones these days, you will be constantly dealing with these issues. Typically these issues arise at times you dont have time to correct the problem, redownload, etc. Its practically impossible to redownload content while traveling because Emby seems to have issues trying to download on "slower" connections (even when streaming works) as well. I think its gotten to a point that im going to look at an alternative and just manually upload content to devices to use a different video player that can play content in different storage locations.
apefray 4 Posted May 22, 2024 Posted May 22, 2024 @cshadduck You refer to external storage but I'm afraid to say I use my phone which only has internal storage, and 3 times now, all my downloaded content has disappeared, so your theory that it's to do with external storage isn't the answer.
Terry82 1 Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) Here is another file log where it deleted downloaded files out of nowhere. upload.txt Edited May 24, 2024 by Terry82
apefray 4 Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) How many here, having this problem subscribe to Emby Premier??? From your log, @Terry82I can see that Emby is failing to check your Emby Premiere subscription, that's if you subscribe of course. If you do subscribe, but Emby is failing the check, this could be the cause of the downloads being deleted as you need a valid Emby Premiere subscription for downloading. I could of course be completely wrong, but this would explain the downloads being deleted Edited May 24, 2024 by apefray
Terry82 1 Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 I have an Emby premiere subscription and my subscription does show up in the android app.
apefray 4 Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) That's my point, we should all have an Emby Premiere subscription to enable the downloads, but looking at your log, I see this several times: Could this be the issue, failure of checking the subscription then deletes the downloads even though we have a subscription? Sorry @Luke, I've just seen your message in my other post requesting more details. I'll jump on the server tomorrow and will sort this out. I'll check also to see if Emby is having problems verifying my Emby Premiere subscription just as it appears in @Terry82logs. Edited May 24, 2024 by apefray
DragonSkills99 4 Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 (edited) Well @LukeI've got the same problem, downloading a season (with the option "download only unplayed videos" enabled) and watching a few episodes soon leads to all other episodes being deleted. I downloaded a season with 51 episodes (several gigabytes) and watched the first two episodes. Then I've got an error, that ep 3 could not be found. The reason: Emby just deleted it! Without any valid reason at all. I hoped that it may be fixed by installing the latest versions of Emby Theater and the Emby Server, but to no avail. It still happens all the same... And it's not even bound to one device, as it also happend on my "XReal Beam" the same as on my "Samsung Z4 Fold". I'm not able to test it on other systems than android for now. But on android the error seems to be happening consistently. That's a severe bug of your application as you can't predownload any series for travels anymore! Hope you're able to fix it soon. (I've got a lifetime subscription, so there shouldn't be any issues here) Edited May 26, 2024 by DragonSkills99
DragonSkills99 4 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 (edited) Okay, now after some testing I'm quite confident, that I know, what's happening and how. But first, what did I do? How did I come to the conclusion? I produced the error in two different ways. Way #1 I've downloaded the season with "download only unplayed videos" enabled. Watched two episodes. And everything came crashing down while starting the third (that happend twice already yesterday) Way #2 I've downloaded the season with "download only unplayed videos" disabled. Watched one episode and tried deleting a already seen episode manually. While trying to open the context menu one the next episode, it didn't and when going out of the series and back in I saw, that all episodes where deleted. This now brings me to the following conclusion, when any episode of a download-entry gets deleted, the download-entry itself also gets deleted, then causing everything downloaded with this entry along to be deleted as well. (Quite similar to how cascading references in databases could cause a database to be emptied by just deleting one entry). It kinda feels like a snowball turning into an avalanche while rolling down a mountain... The download entries can be seen under "Settings > Emby for Android > Downloads > Manage Downloads" @Luke Can you confirm or refute my theory please? Edited May 27, 2024 by DragonSkills99
Luke 42077 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 HI, just for an update, the cause of this has been identified. It will be resolved in the upcoming Emby Server 4.8.9 maintenance release. Workaround until then is to uncheck the option for "unplayed only", when setting up a download job. Thanks !

I never have that checked as I am always downloading programmes that my kids have watched multiple times and want to watch again. It will be interesting to try the new version and see what happens though. Thanks for looking into it. 1
CaptRodwell 3 Posted July 31, 2024 Author Posted July 31, 2024 When is 4.8.9 being released? It's the summer holidays and the downloads vanishing has already caused some grief. My wife and kids went away with tablets full of downloads but when they turned them on for the journey home everything had vanished. It was all things that they had watched many times before and "unplayed only" was unticked.

pwhodges 2012 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Remember, you can't go back from trying 4.9 beta to 4.8 stable, as the database has been modified - you'd have to rebuild your libraries. You can test by making a separate portable installation, though. Paul
CaptRodwell 3 Posted July 31, 2024 Author Posted July 31, 2024 Does 4.9.x have a tentative release date so that I can make a call on if it's worthwhile switching to the beta?
pwhodges 2012 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 The last beta cycle was much longer than expected, so there was a commitment to making this one much shorter - but the official line remains "it'll be ready when it's ready". Luke did recently remark that he hoped it might be out around the end of the summer (Northern hemisphere, I presume). Paul 1 1

CaptRodwell 3 Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 This is still happening. I'm a developer myself, is there anything I could do to help figure out what's going on?

CaptRodwell 3 Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 Yes. I think it's happening on the client as I've seen it happen when the client is offline.
