Emby app crashes with no WiFi connection

Hello,

Long term Emby premiere user, but for the first time ever had a need to download offline content (for travel).

The device is a Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017).

I can download content no problem.  However, when I have no WiFi and go to open the Emby app, it just crashes.  No Emby screens at all.

Is this expected behavior?  Isn't this the whole point of downloading media - to be able to access it offline?

Hmm, that's odd. It is intended to work offline.

Not sure what's up with that, but for a temporary solution/workaround; downloaded files are stored at: /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.mb.android/files/Download

Watch them with another app.

HI, no, this isn't normal. What version of the app do you have installed?

Is it normal for the Android App to spin for 2+ minutes before timing out to where you can select a server or access the download folder when  running offline? And to do that every single time you go back into the app (after accidentally exiting or switching apps)? This makes me want to keep my old subsonic server going. That would at least instantly load and let me choose offline or online before selecting a library, and then show me the files relevant to each. Having to be "online" just to get to my offline files is a pain, and defeats the purpose of offline files. Frankly the only reason I even know it takes 2 minutes is because I gave up waiting for it, set the phone down to so something else, saw that it finally DID load, and repeated with a stopwatch just to see how long it took. When I'm gearing up to go for a motorcycle ride on back country roads I'm not going to stop and wait 2 minutes every time I need to re-open the app.

Hi, no, it’s normally under 20 seconds as that is the connection timeout length.

Any idea what could be causing this? I've been using Emby for 3 years now, but have never been able to use the Android app (one of the main reasons I paid for lifetime Premier) due to offline issues. First it was Emby locking up when I drove away from the house, lost wifi, and then lost 4G. That forced me to Pandora or Spotify as Emby would not re-connect again (and stop the spinning circle) until I could unplug my phone from Android Auto, kill the app, and restart it when I had internet access again. Then I would download files and the app just wouldn't finish loading to give me access to downloaded content without internet access to connect to the server (pointless for offline file access). Now it finally lets me access offline files, but it takes 2 minutes to get there every time the app loads. I would love to finally be able to use the Android app after 3 years.

Ok, ignore my comments. 🤦‍♂️ Just realized my wireguard VPN (used to route DNS through AGH) was still on when I turned off wifi and data on the phone to test offline functionality. With the VPN turned off Emby loaded almost instantly. Carry on.
