Fiio R7 music playback - first second of track inaudible

I am using the Emby app on a Fiio R7 streamer connected via USB to an external dac and hifi system.  The music files are stored on a Synology NAS running the Emby server.  

Whenever I start a track on the R7 the first second or so is inaudible so I can never hear the beginning of the track.  It's ok if it's a playlist and it's coming from another track, but if I start a track manually this always happens.  Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if there is a fix?
