Roger Graham 6 Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 (edited) Hi there, recently my Emby server PC died, and unfortunately I'm overseas travelling. So I'm remotely installing a temporary Emby server instance on a new laptop someone set up for me there, until I get back home to try to sort out the original server PC. Not having access to the backups, I'm having to recreate the user lists and libraries etc. I've just started with the ~4,000-item movie library because I wasn't sure how long the process would take. It's taking forever, seemingly stuck at 90% on the library scan after around 16 hours. Every movie in my library has already been scanned by the original server instance, so every movie has a xxx.nfo, xxx.bif, poster.jpg etc. In that case, shouldn't the library scan be very quick? Might there be something about the way I've set up the new library that's causing Emby to take a long time? Are there any logs I can check to see what it might be doing? I've attached the folder contents and current Emby Home screen image for just one movie folder to try to explain what I mean, along with an extract of the bottom of the log file showing what seems to be a bunch of caching and ffprobe stuff, which needless to say I don't really understand. Hi, it's still going to do internet metadata lookups to try and supplement with internet provided information. if you can attach the emby server log from the library scan then we can offer some advice on how to speed it up. Thanks.
Roger Graham 6 Posted February 21, 2024 Author Posted February 21, 2024 (edited) Hi, thanks Luke - excuse my ignorance, but (which part of) which log file contains that library scan info? Edit; it's just ticked over to 91% after a few hours. So as long as there's progress (even if slow), it's all good - I guess I was really just wondering if it was stuck. Hi, no, there should be no reason for it to be stuck. Quote excuse my ignorance, but (which part of) which log file contains that library scan info? If you're going to attach it, then please just attach the whole thing rather than trying to extract a portion of it. Thanks.
Roger Graham 6 Posted February 22, 2024 Author Posted February 22, 2024 Just a short update. As the library scans were taking a very very very long time, I scrapped the libraries, restarted Emby server and (Windows) server PC, and started all over again. The first time around, Emby wasn't seeing the Z:/ drive which maps to the NAS folder with the media on it, so I had manually entered \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\foldername in the Folder field. After the restart/reboot/etc, the Z:/ drive was showing in the Folder field as expected, so I used that to point to the relevant media folders. This time, the scans are operating far more quickly. I'm not sure if that's the cause of the slowness I was seeing, and if so, whether that's a known effect, but I thought it was worth noting. 1
