tiff1002 7 Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 I have Emby running on server hardware with a server grade Nvidia GPU. The OS is win 10 and I'm pretty sure it detects the card. Thing is I get the feeling the server is not really using the card. I'm pretty sure I read by default Emby let's the client do as much heavy lifting as possible. Is it possible to tell my server to do more of the lifting so to speak or am I just ranting like a lunatic.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 Transcoding happens server side it converting is required. Would need to see ffmpeg logs to know what is being used but you can get an idea on dashboard during playback also.

If your client can handle the codec and connection is fast enough, the server doesn't need to transcode so it won't need to use the hardware because it can directly stream the content in it's original form. This is preferred for the best quality playback. Hardware transcoding is usually necessary for high bit rate content fed to a client over the internet but can depend on a lot of things like your upload speed and the client's download speed, bit rate settings in the server and quality settings on tge client.

Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
