I wish the nvidea shield did that...

It does. You need to sign out from Emby on the Shield first so it will bring up the username/password screen the next time you launch the app, then you'll see the Remember Me checkbox.

@afoglesondoes this help answer your question?

to be honest... maybe... i do not know. I did NOTHING to my app nor to my server. (heck i did not even restart the server let alone any upgrades) and suddenly it just started working when I hit emby on the nvidea streaming device. Frustrating as heck (especially for someone like me who does development lol I hate defects you cannot consistently replicate)

You could help them sign in one time though, right?

Yes, great idea. I only have to setup each person one time on each device. And its only ~10 devices and 4 people. So only 40 times entering a password.

I really don't know why I was complaining

The problem I have with the PIN system is that there are 4 of us in the house that use emby. We never log out and would just switch between accounts. Now is one person is logged in their pin needs to be entered before anyone can switch to their profile.

So now everyone has the same pin to avoid that annoyance.

When the app opens and asks for the last users pin; you can click their user icon and switch users. Depending on the app version, there should also be a 'switch users' button just below the pin entry.

They don't have to know each others pins.

Users can also select 'no' when asked if they'd like to use their pin on the app they are currently signing in to.

It's kind of annoying that the app doesn't just open to the user select screen though.

There is no user icon or option to switch users. The PIN entry box comes up and you either enter the pin and get in or you click cancel and Emby exits.

I'm using the nvidia shield client with the server running on a QNAP.

If you don’t want the app to login as the last user set the option in the start up options to always show login screen

Hi.  You simply change the password.  Then any devices that were authenticated with that user will have to re-authenticate.

Wer kommt auf so eine bescheidene Idee?

Ich habe sehr starke Passwörter, die kann ich gar über eine TV Fernbedienung eingeben! Ich will lokal wieder ohne Passwort!

Mal schnell einen User wechseln geht nicht mehr -.-

Quickly changing a user is no longer possible -.-

Hi.  Why do you think that?  It is still possible.

@smaxlhave you tried clicking your user icon in the top right, followed by change user?

Yes, but the app asks for the password - not the pin!

I've had to change the password to 1234 or something, then login to the app.

But after changeing the password back to dVoeEg5mvZVwg2LYT%vr`AUy&9qeg9#X i've had to type in the password again.... -.-

But only the very first time, right?  After that, you can switch freely back and forth between any previously authenticated users.

NO!

After changeing the password i have to authenticate again. That is bull*****!

Yes, because the password has changed - but what about the next time you change to that user?

And can you confirm that you have told the app to remember you?

Also note that changing users should become easy - but each time you log a user out then that user's password will be needed to log in again.

... Well yeah.

Changing your password logs out all signed in clients...

Set the password to what you want: use that password one time on each client, checking 'remember me'. If desired, enable using a pin when asked about it during sign-in. (you must set a pin in your user settings first)

From there you should be able to 'switch users' and select that user without requiring your password (it'll ask for a pin if you enabled that).

Pressing 'sign out' or changing your password resets this, requiring you to use your full password again.

So thats your Brand new safety feature?

Force users to set passwords like 1234?

It‘s not possible to type passwords like dVoeEg5mvZVwg2LYT%vr`AUy&9qeg9#X with a TVs remote!!!!
Just think about it

All of those characters are available on an on-screen keyboard. It might take you a while to type it in, but it's certainly possible.

A) sure you can, usually via OSK, it's just a PITA. Hence the pin option. You should only have to enter your password once.

\B) How often do you need to change your unnecessarily complex 32char password...? You're just making things more difficult for yourself while adding very very minimal security vs something shorter.

Personally, I use similar randomized strings for my passwords; but 16 char is more than enough.

Since the authentication change at least 8 months ago now; I've had to manually enter that password one singular time. That's it. (xbox one.  Non-tv clients autofill) That client remembers my user and uses a 4 digit pin instead. A pin which can no longer be abused as a primary auth method.

Okay - that might be enough.

But why do i have to authenticate with that strong password inside my own network on every device with all users.. ONCE! (3TV x 4 Users = 12 times - without iPads and iPhones)

sure - one xbox wirth one user … easy

But we use Emby for live TV with recordings on every device…

Hi.  Because that's what authentication is :).  There are a lot of discussions on this forum explaining why assuming a different security posture just because the system believes the traffic is internal is a very bad idea.

To be clear:

Clients will remember the passwords for multiple users.

Sign in with one user, switch users, sign in with a second user. You can now switch between those two without authentication.

Optionally, you can enable a pin for each user you'd like more secure and it'll be prompted for when you try to switch to that user.

Each user should only be required to use their full password once per client.

Initial setup can be a bit of a pain; but once users are signed into the shared clients (tvs), they can just freely switch between them.

Aside from that; use password managers and autofill on everything not a tv.
