Torpal 4 Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Hi, I am new to Emby after being a plex pass user for more than a decade. First Emby is fantastic, after a short trial I became an Emby premiere user. I think all you do is perfect, no problems. Server user friendly, no questions. However I use Android pad and android/google tv and do not understand why the user interface is not the same. An example for mixed content. I have several video playlists that I have put a letter in front of the title, A,B,C for them to show up in that order using sort by name. Works on the standard android app on my Lenovo pad, but on the tv version i do not get that to work. They show up random. The standard app does also have a side menu which is missing on the tv version. Any chance of upgrading the tv version.

This made me happy. Found it when I specifically searched for it. Everything is now working as I hoped. Emby is the best. Hi, I am new to Emby after being a plex pass user for more than a decade. Torpal 4 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 I have downloaded the android standard app and it work fantastic on my TV. First time I only searched for emby and the TV version was the only one I found. Searching Emby for android and both versions showed. I am 76 years, I have ripped all my blue rays for much easier access and playback. I have many music dvds which I have picked tracks from to make playlist by group and artist, like creating the best of ... I admire the quality of your software the user friendliness and the added service in the premiere subscription. 1
Hjlfmir 15 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Hi. As you said you continue to improve the Android App, there is a function in the TV I think it would be great to have in the standard app too : to be able to select the default user/account at startup. I logged both my account and generic family account and I'd like that at start up the family account was the one to be selected. And, if I want, I can easily switch to my account without to have to switch back to generic account before switch off. Thanks team! The app is amazing! 1

Torpal 4 Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Hi, I have no issues with the remote or slowness by any kind. Everything works fast and smooth.
Hjlfmir 15 Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Issue with remote too, after some minutes / hours of usage, the "back button" does not work properly, it does not go back to previous menu but open left side menu instead. Only way to fix it, reboot the Xiaomi TV Box S GEN2. No issue with the Android TV app on the same device
Torpal 4 Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 Hi, I have now tested the android standard app on my Sony smart tv and the back button does function as it should jumping back to the previous page. I have used the app several days at not experienced any problems. Therefore I gave it a test now to see if I got to the side menu instead, but that did not happen, only after repeatedly pressing back and that is how it should be. Maybe it is due to different brands running android tv that make it very difficult for Emby to test every system/brand on the marked. 1 1

Hjlfmir 15 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Hi @Luke, thank you for your message. When has been released the latest version ? I installed the standard Android app last Wednesday (August 14th 2024). The player is in another house, I will be able to try only in February xD I'll update if needed Thanks.

Hi, what version number do you have?
Hjlfmir 15 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Hi, I have the 3.4.20. It should be the latest available.
Torpal 4 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Hi. I have also 3.4.20, but as i said no issues with the back button on my remote. It takes me to the previous page. When emby is open on first page, back is home giving the side menu.Movies back is front page. Open a movie, back is the movies page, next back is the opening page, next again open the side menu, but that can be opened with the left arrow button as well. No problems. I have sony smart tv. Maybe it has something to do with how the back button is used by different systems not the android/google tv software or emby's standard android app?
Lessaj 467 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 I have on occasion had the back button just open the side menu instead of actually going back, so if I'm on an item detail page instead of going back to whatever the previous screen was, maybe it was the home screen from a continue watching item or a collection, but I don't know how to reproduce it. When the side menu comes out I just use the Home item in that menu and then it's back to normal once back on the home screen, no device reboot needed. And even in the case of needing to reboot the device you could probably just force stop the app instead but I'm not familiar with that specific device.
Torpal 4 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Hi to me such and issue that just happens randomly and also is difficult to reproduce cannot easily be solved so unless it happens often for a lot of people emby should not waste time on it. I have tried as you from a detail page and back is the previous page from collection or continue watching. I have tried to force the problem to occur, but have not experienced it so far.
mike3821 67 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Channel up and down in the guide stillllllllll backwards. still no number changing either….

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I just recently switched from the Android TV app to the standard Android app and I'm experiencing this issue. When viewing the Live TV guide, pressing channel down (-) on the remote will scroll up one page on the guide while pressing channel up (+) scrolls down one page. This is counter-intuitive and the opposite of how it has worked on the Android TV app where pressing channel down (-) scrolls down one page on the guide and channel up (+) scrolls back up one page. Any chance this particular behavior can be fixed to work like the Android TV app?

Normally if you’re watching a channel then pressing plus goes up in numbers. 1
majorsl 23 Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 Silly question, is it possible to get the click sound when navigating in the standard android app over to the Android app? I kinda miss it. Weird, I know. Maybe it is there and I'm missing the setting for it...

I get what you're saying but I feel like in this particular case, while scrolling the guide, the channel +/- buttons are acting more like a page up/down function. So in that sense it's more intuitive for page down to scroll down and vice versa. The way it works now it feels like pushing the down button and the guide scrolling up. The way I described it working before has always been that way with the Android TV version of Emby app, so when switching to the standard Android app, for use on a TV, this feels like a step backwards. Also I believe other live TV streaming apps have similar behavior in the guide (channel up = page up, channel down = page down). Maybe it can be a setting so users can choose the behavior they like? 1 1
