uberbane 1 Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 Hi all, I'm having issues playing back any HEVC content via the Emby for Windows app (1.1.539) or in any internet browser. The same content plays perfectly fine on Emby for Samsung TV & in Infuse. I've attached transcode & server log files. The server is running on a shared seedbox where I have no root access and hardware transcoding isn't a viable option. Would greatly appreciate your help in getting this resolved Thanks! ffmpeg-transcode-80051960-d9f2-400b-8c6d-26ca5ed39fd9_1.txt embyserver.txt
Neminem 1519 Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 (edited) This indicates that you server can't handle transcoding of HEVC files. Just looking at you transcode speeds, you server is under powered. 06:02:42.928 elapsed=00:00:06.41 frame= 6 fps=0.9 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.25 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0399x 06:02:49.494 elapsed=00:00:11.10 frame= 8 fps=0.7 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.41 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0375x 06:02:50.442 elapsed=00:00:12.97 frame= 9 fps=0.7 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.41 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0321x 06:02:51.600 elapsed=00:00:13.92 frame= 10 fps=0.7 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.41 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0299x 06:02:55.862 elapsed=00:00:15.08 frame= 11 fps=0.7 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.41 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0276x 06:02:55.863 elapsed=00:00:19.34 frame= 11 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.44 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0232x 06:03:00.874 elapsed=00:00:22.60 frame= 13 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.67 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0298x 06:03:01.333 elapsed=00:00:24.35 frame= 14 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.67 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0276x 06:03:04.571 elapsed=00:00:25.44 frame= 16 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.67 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0264x 06:03:04.571 elapsed=00:00:28.05 frame= 16 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.70 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0251x 06:03:06.257 elapsed=00:00:28.99 frame= 18 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.86 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0298x 06:03:10.207 elapsed=00:00:29.73 frame= 19 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.86 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0291x 06:03:11.375 elapsed=00:00:33.68 frame= 20 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.86 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0256x 06:03:12.090 elapsed=00:00:34.85 frame= 21 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.86 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0248x 06:03:12.090 elapsed=00:00:35.57 frame= 21 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:00.86 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0243x 06:03:18.194 elapsed=00:00:38.81 frame= 23 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:01.12 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0289x 06:03:18.678 elapsed=00:00:41.67 frame= 24 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:01.12 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0269x 06:03:19.811 elapsed=00:00:42.76 frame= 26 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:01.12 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0262x 06:03:19.811 elapsed=00:00:43.29 frame= 26 fps=0.6 q=0.0 size=N/A time=00:00:01.12 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0259x 06:03:21.559 elapsed=00:00:45.02 frame= 28 fps=0.6 q=28.0 size=N/A time=00:00:01.28 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0284x 06:03:22.093 elapsed=00:00:45.53 frame= 50 fps=1.1 q=28.0 size=N/A time=00:00:02.20 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0485x 06:03:22.577 elapsed=00:00:46.03 frame= 73 fps=1.6 q=28.0 size=N/A time=00:00:03.07 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0667x 06:03:23.056 elapsed=00:00:46.53 frame= 88 fps=1.9 q=25.0 size=N/A time=00:00:03.68 bitrate=N/A throttle=off speed=0.0791x So you will need to finde out why windows will not play Hevc files. Have you tried playing the file directly on your pc ? Have you installed the HEVC on your pc ? uberbane 1 Posted February 14, 2024 Author Posted February 14, 2024 I haven't tried downloading and playing them on my computer; could give that a shot as well but I would strongly prefer to stream from the server - and am able to do so from the Samsung TV client and Infuse on iOS devices. I'm not able to play the HEVC files in Safari on my Mac either. The file is stalled at 0:00 and continues to go back and forth between direct play and transcoding to H264 before finally showing no compatible streams and exiting. I'm confused why it's not able to direct play in browser on Mac or Windows and resorts to transcoding. HEVC codecs on the Windows PC are installed and the problem persists.
Luke 42080 Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 Hi, try installing the hevc extension from the Microsoft store onto the windows device that is playing.
uberbane 1 Posted February 15, 2024 Author Posted February 15, 2024 There are two versions of it already installed on that computer, but the problem persists. -HEVC Video Extensions -HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer
uberbane 1 Posted February 15, 2024 Author Posted February 15, 2024 Just to follow up; I think the easiest solution will be to stick to 1080p/H264 releases. I was able to direct play some HEVC content on the Windows PC in Emby Theater today, but it isn't consistent. Most of my devices don't have 4K resolution anyways, so I'll just adjust on my end. Thanks for y'all's help 1
