Search Issue / Suggestion | Version 4.8.0.80

Just updated to Version 4.8.0.80 (Qnap) and noticed that on my emby web client, the search is no longer in the center but on the left flyout menu.

Additionally, on the previous search window that was more conveniently located in the center, it would auto-populate the main screen as you typed your search. In the current iteration, the menu populates vertically and requires scrolling within the confines of this smaller window.

Is it possible to have a toggle to enable the previous search menu behavior (centered search window, auto-populate within the center window) ?

Hide the sidebar and you'll have the behavior as before.

I see thank you... but that is unfortunate, why would the design choice to be pick one or the other? I may be in the minority, but I used bar and search where it was previously located. This seems like one of those Google change decisions where the reasoning isn't obvious.

It is also not consistent, I hide the sidebar and the same icons appear (cast, profile, settings) then you must unhide the sidebar again and re-hide it a second time for the search icon to appear upper right. This is a UI/UX change from the previous edition if I recall correctly? Wasn't the search persistent?

Not to beat a dead horse, but it would seem to me, that search should be persistent as with a media center, and at least for my use case, searching is one of the most used functions after adding media.

Hi, have you tried clicking enter on the search bar while you're searching?

Yes, it sort of restored the user experience before the UI change, however to my previous point, regarding the placement of the search window, it is not persistent, it is repositioned depending on which layout you select.

SIDE PANEL PINNED: small search window is only within the side panel and search results must be selected from within a scrolling vertical window. (New behavior)

SIDE PANEL HIDDEN: search window is centered, full-screen and results populate in main window. (Expected behavior from previous versions)

The main point I am driving at, is that the search behavior is changed from previous Emby server releases. As far as I can remember (and I could be wrong) selecting side panel pinned or hidden, did not alter the search function behavior...? Did not the search window used to be persistent in either option?

Just as a note, I prefer keeping the side panel pinned and having the search behavior as it was in previous releases where IIRC, it was persistent no matter which option you selected. In this iteration, to have the search behavior as I did before, I must forgo the side panel option to have search results populate in the center of the screen.

OK right now there isn't any option just to have a search link in the sidebar.
