Not sure what OS you are running - but can you show an example of those here. If windows, then you can look with right click, properties, security - or command line - C:\Users\***>icacls "M:\Demos\Jellyfish (bitrate test)\jellyfish-10-mbps-hd-h264.mkv" M:\Demos\Jellyfish (bitrate test)\jellyfish-10-mbps-hd-h264.mkv Everyone:(I)(RX) NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(I)(F) MEDIA\***:(I)(F) MEDIA\EmbyService:(I)(F) BUILTIN\Administrators:(I)(F) Successfully processed 1 files; Failed processing 0 files N - no access F - full access M - modify access RX - read and execute access R - read-only access W - write-only access D - delete access How does a comparison between an MP4 (working) and a MKV (not working) look - anything extra, anything missing ? Check the Folder permission as well - you should have at least RX it. Edited February 8, 2024 by rbjtech

Luke 42077 Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Yes that is correct. @e27what exactly is missing from this dropdown? Can you show screenshot examples? Thanks.
e27 7 Posted February 9, 2024 Author Posted February 9, 2024 I looked at my permissions and even added an 'Everyone' with full control to test, and still nothing. I even restarted Emby and I had the same problem. Luke the folder containing all my MKV files. That folder is missing from the dropdown. All other folders without MKV files show up just fine in the dropdown.
Trevor68 70 Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Do you use the FFMPEG in Emby for playback, or an external codec? Can you see those files and play them on your PC without using Emby? If you were to reinstall 4.7 do they then function properly?

e27 7 Posted February 10, 2024 Author Posted February 10, 2024 Yes, they all show up in the command prompt.
Trevor68 70 Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 Can you take a screenshot of the dropdown you are referring to? Clearly if you cannot add your folder to the emby library then of course Emby will not play it. Can you manually add the path to the library, like type it in yourself?
e27 7 Posted February 10, 2024 Author Posted February 10, 2024 I tried typing it manually and nothing.
Trevor68 70 Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 Screenshot? What is different about this folder? I'd bet if you add some MKV files to the working library folder they will play fine. The fact that you cannot add this folder to a library is simply a permissions and or network issue. Create a new folder, add it to your library, move the MKV files in there. Or reinstall 4.7 to see if that works maybe? 1
visproduction 315 Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 Suspect registration character code might cause the folder to not be visible in a list. Try renaming a test directory without the circle r character after Dolby. See: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/fileio/naming-a-file

e27 7 Posted February 11, 2024 Author Posted February 11, 2024 In the Metadata Manager my 4K, Bluray, and Movies(DVD) would populate with all my movies folders, each folder would show my movies in MKV format and now the only dropdown is a few old movies in MP4 format. My library is still mapped as it always has been but if I were to add a new library and try to map these folders they are no longer visible, except the Movies folder because it has MP4 files. The other two folders just have MKV files.
Trevor68 70 Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 (edited) What is that bottom screenshot, is that where you add folders to libraries? If you put a MKV movie in the K:\Movies folder can you see and play it? I wasn't saying map "those" folders, they are clearly broken. Map a new library and add a new folder to it, put some mkv movies in it and see if it works. So add K:\Newfolder to a library, put some movies in it and update your library and enjoy. As before if Emby cannot "see " your existing folders to add them to a library then stop wasting your time looking in Emby for them Create new ones that can be added, profit. If you want me to RDP in and take a look I am happy to do so, just PM me Edited February 11, 2024 by Trevor68

In the library settings - if you were to ADD a path of k:\Movies\Movies\Father of the Bride Collection\ do you see the Father of the Bride folders appear (the original + part 2) ? I'm not suggesting this is what you need to do, but I just want emby to SEE the folders and files - then we can work out why. @LukeIs there any limitations of how deep a MKV can be in sub folders ? IF the permissions on MP4 and MKV are the same (the file system can see them, see above) is there any reason why emby can't see them ?
e27 7 Posted February 11, 2024 Author Posted February 11, 2024 The MKV files are in the same folder structure as the MP4 files. Movies Folder\Movie Name Folder\File 1

Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 Minus a path issue in the database can you create a test library with a new path and place a couple items in that path to see if they appear?
rbjtech 5284 Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 What about other applications - if you launch VLC, can you navigate to those folders and the MKV play ? If yes, then this is crazy. I would be inclined to start again (or install a portable version to test) and if it then works great, if not send the logs as this is a very interesting case.
Luke 42077 Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 What other emby libraries have you created?
e27 7 Posted June 5, 2024 Author Posted June 5, 2024 Sorry for being gone for a while. Life. Here is what I did. I downloaded an old version before any of the 4.8 versions. I installed version 4.7.14.0 and it found my folders and drives without any issues. I let Emby library scan all the files and was able to play a movie. All of my media was available as it once was. Then I updated to 4.8.8.0 and as soon as I did a library scan poof, all gone except for 4 movies. I took pictures and have attached them and the log file. embyserver.txt
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Not sure as your log show the items being removed from the database and you have a random/partial permissions issue on Emby Metadata folder.
