e27 7 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 I still have my MP4s displaying for me, but not a single MKV will show up. All the folders with my mkv files are still mapped. they will not show up.
Luke 42077 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Hi, did you try running a library scan? Have you checked your user permissions to ensure that your emby user is granted access to the library?
e27 7 Posted February 6, 2024 Author Posted February 6, 2024 I did a library scan, I refreshed the metadata. I am the Emby user. Where does one check for user permissions?
e27 7 Posted February 6, 2024 Author Posted February 6, 2024 I found it. Yes I have, Enable access to all libraries checked.
Luke 42077 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 OK can you please provide an example of what is not showing up?
e27 7 Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 Every MKV file I have is not showing up. MP4 files show up just fine.
Luke 42077 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 OK can you please pick one and provide an example? Thanks.
e27 7 Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 There must be some sort of miscommunication. Every movie I have in MKV format is no longer in My Media. When I go to my Library in the dashboard all the folders are still mapped, but only my MP4 files are displaying in the My Media.
Luke 42077 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I understand, and I am asking questions to try and learn why.
e27 7 Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 All I know is everything worked just fine and displayed just fine until it updated to 4.8.0.80. This is why I am contacting you. What happened with the update that would make all my MKV files not display on My Media?
Luke 42077 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Can you please show an example of an mkv that is not showing up?
Luke 42077 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Just pick one, any one. It should be easy since you said a lot are impacted.
Luke 42077 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 OK great. How are your files named and organized? What folder is this in? What else is in the folder?
e27 7 Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 W:\4K\Thor Love and Thunder\Thor-Love_and_Thunder.mkv W:\4K\Thor Love and Thunder\Thor-Love_and_Thunder.nfo and jpg and png files for the posters and fanart.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Sorry but you will have to break your setup down on how many libraries are setup. What paths you have libraries pointing to. What platform is this on? Could there be different permission on this folder vs your mp4s? Are there errors in the server log? Might need images of the setup.

FWIW: I assume your library is pointed at W:\4K but if it is pointed at W: itself then that is your problem. Root directories should never be used as the root of libraries. The other problem I see is naming. While what you have is close to correct it is actually not a format that is primarily supported. I suggest you name the file and the directory like "\Thor - Love and Thunder (2022)\" and for the file itself "Thor - Love and Thunder (2022).mkv" That is much closer to ideal naming and it works for me. I have over 4300 movies and not one is matched incorrectly. Other naming schemes do work, mostly, but I do not trust them and I always keep in mind the fact that just because some format, that is not recommended, works at some point does not mean that it will continue to work in the future. Stick to the Emby recommended naming and format and you will have many fewer problems.
e27 7 Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 It's been the same setup for years and worked flawlessly. Case and point I haven't posted a question since 2019. As I said everything worked until the new 4.8.0.80. Here are the logs. One before the automatic update and the rest after. embyserver-63842534070.txt embyserver-63842535002.txt embyserver-63842601600.txt embyserver-63842688000.txt hardware_detection-63842534108.txt hardware_detection-63842535018.txt embyserver-63842534059.txt

This may not be your issue but, given that there are many many renaming tools that will fix a huge number of files all at once it just seems that getting your files named correctly is a potential fix that has no real downside. I use FileBot under Windows for that task. But there are a lot of tools for virtually every operating system that make mass renaming almost painless. Once, back when I only had about 1500, files I renamed my entire library in less than 5 minutes. It is best not to fight the great Emby-o-suraus it is just frustrating and, if you fail, you get consumed by the giant monster. But I cannot say that is your problem. It is just so easy to fix and there is virtually no downside. The only problem I see is that you might have to rescan your library.
Luke 42077 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Is your emby user granted access to all libraries?

Luke 42077 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 How many Emby libraries have you created and what folder paths are added to each one?
rbjtech 5284 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 There are no issues with the naming. Logs are showing mkv's being removed - emby is likely doing that because (for some reason) it doesn't have access to see that file anymore. if you add a test library, in folder type W:\4K and then press the refresh arrow (to the right) - does emby populate the folders with movies in them ? if yes, them emby has permissions to see and list those folders. So the question is does it have permissions to see the mkv files ? Are the mp4 and mkv permissions are the same - has anything changed here ? Are you running emby as a service ? If yes, are you using the same account as you did previously ? Emby simply uses the service it starts with - so if it read the mkv's before - it will read them again ...
e27 7 Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 They are all western digital external drives. And it will not read MKV's on any of the drives I have. When I go to make a new library and look for the folder with all my MKV's in it it does not appear in the dropdown selection. but all my other folders without MKV's do show in the dropdown selection.
