ak96ss 10 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 I updated Emby Server to version 4.8.0.80 a few days ago and since then have been unable to play 4K streams through the Windows App or on the Media Server home page in Edge. The app and the home page will show the splash screen with the 'buffering' ring, but then the program never plays. When I go to the server dashboard, I don't see the stream at all, not that I started playing the program, not even that it is transcoding, but once I cancel playback and go back to the menu, it shows that I have completed playing the program. Lower resolution/smaller files seem to play fine. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-273a3e66-54b3-40eb-95a0-cfc4dedd3643_1.txt
Luke 42080 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Hi, have you tried installing the hevc extension from the microsoft store?
ak96ss 10 Posted February 6, 2024 Author Posted February 6, 2024 No, but I don't normally watch in the browser, I normally watch in the app, and it does it in both. I can give it a whirl, but didn't think I needed that for the app.
ak96ss 10 Posted February 6, 2024 Author Posted February 6, 2024 Interesting. I made it through the first 8 episodes of The Sandman (and, actually, all the 4K stuff I have) without ever noticing any issues with playback at all, without the HEVC extensions. Actually never even knew it was an issue. Added the extensions, and now it appears to be working fine. The fix-it-guy in me wants to know what changed and why, because something clearly did, but honestly, at this point in my life I'm good with accepting that it works. Thanks. 2
Luke 42080 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 The difference is It gives you direct play of hevc from inside the app.
