No Password for Local Networks Removal

Greetings.

Let me say - I understand IT Security. It's part of my profession as an IT Network Specialist.

However, I live in a house with 3 adults. We share a main TV and swap between Emby profiles, depending on who is driving in front of the TV.

We're all admins on the server and on Emby.  None of us want to have to put in passwords every time we swap profiles which can happen many, many times over the course of a day.

Please re-enable this feature and let people decide on the level of security they want, most especially on their internal networks. For us, this is -nothing- but inconvenience.

We are already ALL inconvenienced by forced security in every other aspect of our lives - give those of us exhausted with it the ability to opt out internally and not be so inconvenienced when swapping between Emby profiles internally.

Do you log out each time, or just use change user?  If you log out explicitly, that clears the local password memory.

That said - what client are you using?  One or two are still not behaving as intended.

It's an LG/Web OS TV

Just "change user" requires password's, we aren't signing out all the way.

Hi, the next update to the Emby LG app will be brought up to speed with 4.8 features and will support both multi-user login as well as the new profile pin feature of 4.8.

It is currently in LG review so hopefully it will be available to you within the next week or two. Thanks.

So, does that mean I am going to be able to swap between profiles again without having to put in a password?

Let me add- this is for the TV.

On our pc's we use password managers so the BS of having to have EVERYTHING passworded to the nines's is nicely and automatically handled.

But with my not-so-great eyesight and some-days-more-arthritic-fingers - having to put in passwords on the TV is a huge PITA.

Yes.

@Lukethis new update has caused a lot of headache at our home. Suddenly, The Emby app on my older Shield is requiring all users to log in except one. Why just the one? I haven't been able to figure that out yet. I've since went in and created easy 4 digit pins for everyone. Two out of three of the profiles work but one won't log in even with having established the pin. I tested one profile by setting it to never log off but even if I just close the app and open it back up again the login screen requires a pin.

Oh and another bug... For security purposes I have only one user set to have access to the dashboard but when I open Emby by selecting configure, it defaults to a completely different user and I have to toy around with it to locate the login screen on localhost to get back to my admin account.

Overall, this update has caused quite a bit of harm. I was smooth sailing on Emby before. If it's not broke don't fix it.

Yes.

Thanks Luke.

This is what I care about...sometimes, I just need things easy for me to deal with lol

as I said, I do understand the necessity of security updates, especially in a household with adults and kids and mischievous pranks, but we don't have that issue here. Everyone is over-worked, tired and just wants to watch shows with a minimum of fuss and without the hoops of security/password or 2-factor authentication that sends you scrambling for your phone, etc. lol

Hi, I apologize for the disruption. In the Emby app on the Shield, have you enabled the option in settings to control your login preference as desired?

Also, have you checked out the new profile pin feature? This will allow you to have multiple users signed in and switch between them using pins. The Emby app on the Shield will be getting that this week. Thanks.

Good morning - I'm having this same frustration on the Emby app for AppleTV. Is this setting to swap users without putting in a password coming there soon too? It's a pretty frustrating experience right now.

@Luke

Is there a setting somewhere that needs to be changed or checked?

Because when swapping between profiles, it still requires a password

So we have had to change all our passwords to something simple and matching, which makes everything less secure since my roommates access their stuff remotely (I never go anywhere).

What Emby app are you swapping profiles with?

LG WebOS TV - 1.0.41

when signing in are you checking the box "Remember me"? Or rather are you leaving it checked as it is on by default...and then to switch users are you specifically using the change user function and not sign out?
