Luke 42078 Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 What folder paths are added to each library?
seashell 42 Posted February 5, 2024 Author Posted February 5, 2024 One folder per library. No links (symbolic or otherwise) anywhere in the /media directory. Movies: /media/movies TV: /media/tv Mixed: /media/anime
Luke 42078 Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 OK yes what's happening is the settings for these are actually not exposed. When you customize the movie image providers, that's only for the movies. We'll have to look at how to proceed, but is this a big problem? The vast majority of users want this because there are no internet images for extras. You can always assign your own images if you don't like the generated ones.
seashell 42 Posted February 6, 2024 Author Posted February 6, 2024 No it's not a big problem, but the lack of consistency is confusing, and thus I was confused why I was getting screen grabs in some situations and not in others. Basically from what you said and what I see this seems to be the behavior: Movies: Extras do not inherit settings TV Shows: Extras do inherit settings Mixed Media: Extras in "known" sub-folder names (extras, featurettes, etc, not really sure the actual list) do inherit settings, random folder names do not inherit settings. Not a very intuitive pattern. Even you took a while to figure it out with years of experience and full access to the code. I think behavior should be predictable, and if not DOCUMENTED. So I think subfolders should follow (inherit) the library settings if there is no visible special setting for them. But at the very least the inconsistency needs to be documented.
Luke 42078 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 The reason it works more seamlessly for tv series is because extras are just episodes with season 0, therefore all of the same things apply to them. Movie extras are a little different and more of a one-off. But yes I agree on documentation. Thanks for the feedback.
seashell 42 Posted February 6, 2024 Author Posted February 6, 2024 Yes I figured on the tv-series. Not really sure how the whole mixed-media thing really works just yet in general. Seems it trys to automagically guess what's going on per folder / sub-folder. I do appreciate your looking into this, but I do have a bit more feedback that sadly probably won't be well received. This could have been a much shorter thread if you'd just tried a simple example on your own. All the behavior I reported would have been easily verified by you. (With the possible exception of whatever bug got quietly fixed from 4.7-4.8 regarding image location.) Treating every customer like they're an idiot (who say couldn't possibly understand file permissions) and just saying follow the script / give me logs isn't really the most welcoming nor efficient approach. And yes, I've been in your role and I know the kinds of requests you get and the varying skill levels of those who make them. But if the problem described is easy to test I think you'll find it's often just easier to do that. If you don't see the problem then you can try to figure out what the "customer did wrong". But if you do then you can give a clear answer quickly, and decide what you want to do about it with a test case in hand.
Luke 42078 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Sorry, it was not my intention to make you seem you didn't know what you were doing or were doing something wrong. When it comes to questions like this I am not only trying to answer your questions but also find out where the help text came up short, so that's why I keep bringing it up.
seashell 42 Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 Fair enough. Lucky for you as you may have noticed I'm not shy about moaning about where the documentation is lacking. 1
