Nanobot 0 Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Hi everybody, I am running Emby 4.8.0.80 portable on Windows10 Pro x64. My problem is that emby does not recognize files that are contained in a m3u playlist when the filename contains german umlauts. If the filename is An der schoenen blauen Donau.flac and it is contained in a m3u playlist, it is recognized correctly within the playlist shown by Emby, but if the filename is An der schönen blauen Donau.flac this track does not show up within the Emby playlist. Since Emby is running under Windows and the ressource where the files are located is a local drive, Emby should be aware of the charset which is used within the m3u file and by the filesystem; which in my case is Windows-1252. If I am selecting the same album (Soundtrack from "2001 - Odyssee im Weltraum") as "album" instead as "playlist" within Emby, all tracks are present. Therefore my question is: Is there any setting which would force Emby to use the correct (Windows-1252) charset when analyzing a playlist ?
Luke 42080 Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 HI, does the file name in the m3u match the filename in the file system?
Nanobot 0 Posted February 4, 2024 Author Posted February 4, 2024 Yes, of course. After renaming the file "An der schönen blauen Donau.flac" to "An der schoenen blauen Donau.flac" ( or vice versa ) I generated a new m3u file. But I think have identified the problem: If the m3u file contains the filenames using the ANSI ( Windows-1252 ) charset, which is the standard on a german Windows 10 installation, the file containing the umlaut is not recognized. I just converted the content of the m3u to UTF-8 charset, and now the Umlaut is recognized. So my assumption is that the Emby server always assumes that the m3u file always uses UTF-8, even if it is running on a Windows OS. The problem is that e.g. the well known program "mp3tag" always generates m3u playlists with using the ANSI charset. The problem can be solved by either converting the charset to UTF-8 with an editor or to tell mp3tag that it should use the m3u8 extension ( which produces an UTF-8 playlist) and rename it to m3u afterwards. Another option would be to create a setting for the Emby server which tells him which charset is used within m3u files.
Luke 42080 Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 Hi, yes I think you've hit the nail on the head of what the issue is. Thanks !
