pschweig 6 Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Hi I have been looking forward to being able to view .heic files from our iPhones via Emby 4.8. However there seems to be many photos missing from my library. When I transfer the photos from the iPhone to my PC they mostly have 6 files as below due to the live picture containing a short video. IMG_2200.HEIC IMG_2200.HEIC.xmp IMG_2200.MOV IMG_2200.MOV.xmp IMG_2200_Original_HEVC.MOV IMG_2200_Original_HEVC.MOV.xmp The .heic file is not added to my Emby photo library after a media folder scan. If I change the name of the .heic to e.g. IMG_2200 - embyTest.HEIC and rescan the file appears as expected. Can this be fixed? A large proportion of my photos have this same group of similarly named files. I have attached a cut down version of the server logs to this post. thanks Paul embyserver_020224_edit.txt
Luke 42080 Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Hi, what’s happening is that because the name of the file matches the video file, it’s being imported as the primary image of the video. If the video wasn’t there or if the photo had a different file name then this wouldn’t occur.
pschweig 6 Posted February 3, 2024 Author Posted February 3, 2024 Hi Luke - I can't feasibly rename 10,000s of image files and I don't want to delete the live videos. If anything I would prefer it to import the photo and ignore the video. Can I configure Emby to prioritize the photo over the video for my Home Videos and Photos library? Or is there some other way to get Emby to handle live photos exported from an iPhone. Surely this is not a particularly rare usecase. thanks
Luke 42080 Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 I understand, I was just informing you of the current conventions. We would have to add more options to accommodate what you're trying to do.
pschweig 6 Posted February 3, 2024 Author Posted February 3, 2024 That would be great. The way these are displayed on the iphone - you see the image and then if you press and hold and the video plays. This would be a big boon for iPhone owing Emby users if Emby supported something similar. Is it possible to somehow accurately detect iPhone live photos?
pschweig 6 Posted February 4, 2024 Author Posted February 4, 2024 I was just wondering if you as Emby programmers can detect from the image meta data that this is a iPhone live photo and handle the display of it and its associated video clip in a nice fashion. If not then being able to configure the Video primary image functionality to keep only the image or keep only the video or off (keep both) for certain folders would be a decent workaround.

HI, in theory, yes, I don't see why not.

Luke 42080 Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 HI, it's certainly possible for future updates. Thanks.
