Hello. I am having an issue logging into the Emby server locally at the server. I am running Win10. I am not sure what prompted the requirement to manually log in, as it usually just starts and logs me in automatically.

  • I have attempted the password reset option, using the text file, putting in the PIN , and then logging in without a password.
  • I also tried setting system.xml to false to try to get the setup wizard to let me in. The setup wizard just spins as pictured, never advancing.
  • i have also tried both Edge and Chrome and cleared browser cache several times.

Neither is working for me.

Hi, well there's two different things here to answer on. Regarding the password reset process, if you reset the password and you still get an error about unable to login, then chances are you most likely have the wrong username. What username did you enter into the forgot password page, or did you leave that blank?

Second, regarding the startup wizard, what you did here is not a recommended method to get back into the server after you're unable to authenticate. In fact, we've never tried this, so we're not sure what will happen.

Can you please provide the emby server log by locating the server logs folder:

Emby Server Data Folder

I'm curious to know what happened there.

Thank you for looking into it.

Using password reset, I tried both options. One where I filled in the known username and also without a username. When I tried it without a username, it correctly reported that the password was removed for the one username that I have. See screenshot.

I tried the setup wizard method following post #15 by Carlo in the following thread: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/113231-admin-password-reset-not-working/&do=findComment&comment=1194581

I have attached a log file. I made sure to try the password reset options again.

@crbdrbonlinein system.xml you've set PublicPort to 809652 which is invalid for a port number. This is causing an error to be thrown that is causing problems with other things. Try setting that back to 8096 and then restart the server.

Well, that was that. I really do appreciate the time.

I can say that I do not believe I ever entered that file until this password issue occurred on Friday. So I am not sure how I made that error, but maybe I did years ago and it was just lying in wait.

We're also going to update the server to catch this error and still be able to run normally inside the local network in this situation.

Thanks for following up.
