Shows/Movies Not Showing Up

So I've use Plex for about ten years (maybe more). I don't like how they keep updating and each update it gets worse. My main issue with Emby is the things not showing up AT ALL. I know people say it's how you're naming things. But that isn't really a good thing/excuse. I know I'll get 1,000 url examples on how to name things, but if it just COMPLETELY ignores things I don't know if I want to switch. Is there a way I can get items to be displayed even if it can't read teh name? Seems like a good thing to just display everything that's in the folders you select, but Emby doesn't. I don;t know if this is more a Jellyfin question sense that's all Emby seems to be. A little more souped up version of that.

Thanks

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in  How to Report a Problem.

Emby is not a version of Jellyfin; it's the other way round - Jellyfin is developed from an old fork of Emby.

As for shows not showing up - I'd say it's certain that you have a naming issue.  A possible side effect of this could be that some shows are being combined (maybe with the episodes being versioned), which admittedly makes it hard to see what's happened without examining the logs for the period when the scanning was taking place.

Emby's naming guides describe what they are committed to handling, and the folder structure and naming is as important as the actual file naming.

It doesn't help to say that another program doesn't have the same problem - it has different rules, and while Emby strive to make their scanning more widely compatible, that is a slow and complex task.  Also, make sure that your naming actually fits within Emby's rules and you'll be fine - but "a bit like them" is often not good enough.

This question makes it sound to me as if you haven't set up a library yet because unless you're naming is way out of spec, Emby often picks up the file name and displays it without any metadata.  I have several items in my TV library like this.  If you have it at that point, you can manually go through each Emby listing of the file, look up the TMDB or TVDB id for the item and edit the id into the metadata.  TBH, that just sounds painful so it might just be easier to just rename your files as you can find all sorts of utilities that let you do bulk renames.

You should at least take a look at the documentation regarding media naming conventions to see how far out of spec your file names are.

HI, what do you mean by can't read the name? Items are always displayed. Please provide a specific example. Thanks.

No items aren't. Especially in TV shows, but it also does it in movies. Example Six Ways to Sunday (1997).mkv, Plex sees it and it shows up. Emby doesn't and so it doesn't.

Just saying "it doesn't work" doesn't give us any clues to help you with.  Show us the folder structure and file naming, and we'll explain if anything needs changing.

How are your files named and organized?

Again Six Ways to Sunday (1997).mkv and they're just in a folder called movies.

NEVERMIND! It's know in the industry as user error. I saw more things not show up. I looked at the folders in Emby and Plex, and they didn't match. So going through and adding them so they're exact. After that more things showed up. Sorry to be stupid!

Thanks
