kaledi 41 Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 My set up consists of more than one version of the same movie to account for different bit rates and resolutions. I store each version in a different location and I have 'Auto Movie Version collections' plug in installed so that for a user with access to all folders then the movie will only appear once and the different versions are available to select from. This works well as I can create different users with different access permissions so only the intended version is visible to them. I have an additional use case I testing. So I'd like to create two distinct and independent movie libraries that point to different folders, but still contain the same movies. When I do this, despite library 1 not pointing to the folder of library 2 and vice versa, when I navigate to the movie on a client, both versions are visible to select from in both libraries. This doesn't seem intuitive to as I understand the concept of the Auto Movie Version Collections pooling the same movie from multiple locations for a library that is pointed to those folders, but for a folder that is not pointed to in that library. If that makes sense. So is there anyway to create 2 completely independent movie libraries that contain the same movies, but stored in different locations with the plug in?

Auto Grouping plugin is folder/library-agnostic and groups versions based on item TMDBId, from the OP in plugin topic: Quote The plugin works similar to the auto boxsets, but does the "movie versions grouping" - it will group all movies based on their TMDB id into one item, regardless of where they're placed and how they're named. As long as those movies have same external ID - they'll be grouped.
ebr 16185 Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Hi. You may want to try using Folder Based Access Control instead of multiple libraries.
kaledi 41 Posted January 31, 2024 Author Posted January 31, 2024 Thank you both for your replies. @ebrI use exactly this solution already and it works beautifully, both for the scenario you describe, but also I have multiple versions of the same media and use user profiles to direct the user the most appropriate version 1080p vs 4k for instance. However, this isn't the scenario I have in mind at this time. I'd like to actually have two distinct libraries that contain the same media (different physical files in different locations) and are visible in the client as 2 separate libraries. I can do this, but with the Auto Movie Version Collections plugin installed, what happens is that both unique libraries (visible in the client interface) end up have their respective and other file versions visible in the dropdown you use to select the movie version when more than one version is available. @GrimReaperprovided me with a good explanation of why. It would be good for this plugin to have the option of excluding folders from being checked? Incidently, is this plugin still required with the current version of the server? I'm sure I read sometime in the past that this functionality was in the plans to be natively incorporated?

For multi-version without the plugin you have to name your files accordingly: Movie Naming
