Complex folder organisation and movie titles starting with numbers

Hello,

I have been searching the documentation / knowledge base and forum for a while and I can't seem to find the information so I decided to ask.  My apologies if the information is easily available and I simply failed to find it.

I use the so-called "Complex Folder Structure" (https://emby.media/support/articles/Movie-Naming.html) as my naming convention and I do not know how to handle movies that start with a number (such as 27 Dresses).   Do I put in in the Ts (twenty seven) or do I make folders for the numbers ?   Or a single one ?

Movies/T/27 Dresses
Movies/T/Twenty Seven Dresses
Movies/2/27 Dresses
Movies/0-9/27 Dresses

I think all options would have been possible, but I do not know which one Emby selected.  Does someone have the information and should the info be added to the documentation page I linked above ?

Thank you in any case.

It's recommended to provide more info, as it explain in this thread:

Thank you.

Hi, matching the original title of the movie is best. You don’t need to convert numbers to words. So basically just name it like you would any other movie.

Thanks for the quick response.  From this answer, I understand that the options are:

Movies / T / 27 Dresses.mkv

Movies / 2 / 27 Dresses.mkv

Movies / 0-9 / 27 Dresses.mkv

Should I understand from your answer that the name of the "sub-folder" does not matter to emby ?  That in the simple or "Complex Folder Structure", all emby does is recursively search for new files with no regard to the folders once you have pointed it at the head (the "Movies" folder in my example) ?

Sorry if I'm a bit slow to understand.  And thanks again.

OK so you’re not doing separate folders for each movie. That’s what I would suggest. And have the folder and file name match the title on moviedb

OK, so maybe the "Complex Folder Structure" in the documentation does not really support this.

I should switch to the simple one then.

Unfortunate.  I prefer having the movies grouped by letters.  Not that I have that many, but it is nice to have a bit more folders to avoid clutter.

Thanks for the answers.

It is supported. Just not really recommended.

Just for completeness sake and to let others know (if someone finds this post), I tried the solution:

Movies/0-9/27 Dresses (2008) - [tmdbid-6557]/27 Dresses (2008).mkv

and Emby was able to add it to my library, identify the movie and get the metadata.

Thanks again.
