Music Library not available in Kodi

I am running Kodi on several different platforms:

my Ubuntu box, hosting emby-server, an intel nuc running librelec, a rpi3 with librelec, an android phone as well as a windows machine.

All are using emby-next-gen in the latest version 8.2.15

Now my problem is, that incidentally my windows machine is working fine, all libraries are there.

On all the other ones, however the music library does not show up at all. the boxes running libreelec, running a sync, but music remains empty. On my ubuntu machine, I get presented with two entries:

  • emby-for-kodi-next-gen-addon music
  • emby-for-kodi-next-gen-addon music-path-substitution

on both entries I get an error for "Remote share" path not found or invalid.

I am using the same settings on all machines, I am using the same user to login to emby on all machines. On the server I can see all libraries and playback everything.

It is only the music library that is behaving like that. I have tried downgrading the emby-next-gen, but so far no success.

The two paths are just placeholders and not actually used.

You must sync your music library to Kodi or use dynamic nodes.

Thanks for your reply, but that does not really help me. You see, I made this post solely because except for my windows machine- for whatever reason- my music library simply does not sync to Kodi at all on my linux-based boxes. Those placeholders are the only thing being displayed- and I think they shouldn't be visible either.

Then please send me a kodi.log for review after (invalid) music sync.

This is the log from a box were you cannot browse music library? Log looks perfect to me.

Yeah, the log may look all dandy, yet if you check out the attached screenshot, the music library does not look like it should and I would appreciate any help in figuring this out.

Use default skin for testing and send me your mymusic.db from Kodi for review, thanks.

there you go. I tested with the standard skin and it looks better, however all the entries are empty, no songs in there.

Thanks for looking into this.

MyMusic82.db

I see the problem, no idea how this could happen to you, but your db is missing the roles.

Shutdown Kodi, delete MyMusic82, MyVideos121 and emby* databases (not addon and Viewmodes dbs) and try a resync.

If this doesn't help, use stable version 8.2.14 or the public testing 9.X versions.

at least some progress. I deleted the dbs and went back to 8.2.14, did a resync and now I can at least see some songs again. It may be skin-related now or its a Nexus bug. I dont know.

When I go to Music, the page still looks the same as in the previous screenshot. Hitting the back button brings up the menu from emby and I can access my music.
thanks so far. I guess I will try a different skin.

I am sorry to revive this topic, but I am really at my wits end.

I had suffered some hardware issues, which caused me to make a clean install of my Ubuntu-server. Now I am running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Kodi 21. I got the latest EmbyServer 4.8.8.0

I got the emby next gen beta from the beta-repository. I noticed that there are now three separated plugins for picture, audio and video. Picture and Audio-plungins are at 10.0.1, while Videoplugin is at 10.0.24

I have played around with this the whole day- the only library that is being shown in Kodi is my Movie library. My Music Library as well as TV-Shows show me the same as above in my previous post. I had hoped with those newer version this had somehow been cleared out.

I am I the only one with this problem? Am I not seeing something? Right now I am about to start questioning my life's choices. Can someone help me figure this out?

In .26 will be even more, I split into 4 plugins.

Not sure what's the current status, the last I reported was:

Your database was broken....

Yeah, that was the idea last time. However, like I said we are talking about a fresh installation. If previously the dB was broken, that might have had something to do with the faulty hardware I had, but that has been exchanged too. Also- I have this issue on all my Kodi instances - my Ubuntu server, my 2 libreelec boxes, as well as my windows11..all running Kodi 21 by now. So, do you think all those machines somehow have a broke. dB? The embyserver itself does not have to an issue.

Like I said, I am quite a bit flustered

Can you assign me a test account on your server?

Maverick0815

an account on my embyserver... sure. How will I get you the credentials?

via PM, please. I'll only try to sync the content to Kodi for debug.

Thanks, I run a sync, but no music content (also no tvshows). Even on WebUI I cannot see any music content.

So the sync is so far consistent with Emby's content at this point.

Did you enable the music library for the test account?

You are saying, the music content is not correctly synced on your setup, right?

ok, I have an update: apparently I had a permissions issue on the drive that stored all my media. I cleared this up and embyserver was successfully syncing all my libraries. Now on my kodi instances they do show up, namely: Movies and TV-Shows, just as expected. Music however is still the odd one out: it still shows those placeholders, just as in my post from january 25. When I click on the two buttons at the top I get another menu from Emby where I can access all the music, but I think thats not quite the intended behaviour.

Not sure what you do, sounds you go to Settings -> Media -> Library -> Music.

Why?

Home screen (default skin): Music menu opens the nodes, even not nice it's default Kodi. If you want a different view, use a custom skin.

If you do browse differently, I need detailed introductions how you end up in this screen.

I have a feeling we are not quite understanding each other.

What I do is simply clicking on Movies, to browse my movies, tv-shows and music to browse through music. It works normally for movies and tv-shows now...only when I click on music on the Homescreen, that it shows what I posted above. Do you want me to shoot a video of that?

And that's not what suppose to happen and never happens on my setup. Also makes no sense this happens to you.

As far as I can say, this is not a plugin sync issue

Currently no clue what is different but there must be something.

This is how it should look like with stock skin:

You can see, (top left), it's the "music" view but somehow you ended up in the "files" view.

You could reactivate the test account, and I'll check again.

yeah, I see...the screen you posted is what I get, when I go to Music and then click on the ".." above the two entries I described. On the other hand, I hope I don't sound too picky, by why is that even showing like that? I'm not getting this view on the other two libraries. This behaviour is also not dependent on the skin. I get this also with the standard skin in kodi out of the box.

That's a question for Kodi devs, I don't make the skins but I don't like it either. Therefore I simply changed it. By using a custom skin and you can change nearly everything.
