Why does emby keep deselecting upcoming recordings?

But I think the communication failures in the log give you something to look into, right?

Really?  I understand how that could cause a recording that was about to record to be skipped.....but please explain how that could deselect  several recordings in a row a day ahead??  Not possible.

Have you checked the MB schedule after selecting a recording? Does it show up? Do you have a red circle on the guide indicating the program will record? Or is it greyed out?

Yes, and they are selected with the red circle.  Then I go back later looking for something else and now they are not selected with no red or grey circle.  I've been using emby for over 4 years and made over 10K recordings so I know how LiveTV works....or should work, except LiveTV is more broken than functional unfortunately.

Understood. We have a similiar set up so just wondering what could be different. If we use the same provider I could mimic your recordings and see if we get the same result....

@Luke @ebr does emby remove scheduled recordings if it tries to reach their source (the tuner) and fails? (both the current item it's trying to record as well as future scheduled items)

That's the only thing that really comes to mind.

No, at the time of the recording, if it fails, it will retry several times until it eventually gives up. So then yes at that point it will be removed/cancelled, unless it's part of a series, at which point it might get rescheduled depending on series recording settings.

What I see in his log are quite a few unsuccessful attempts to reach the tuner:

System.Net.Http.HttpRequestException: System.Net.Http.HttpRequestException: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network. (192.168.50.181:5004)

Eventually the recording process will stop trying and give up.

I understand the user is frustrated and is probably not going to like this answer, but there is no emby server fix for this. The fix is finding out why the network is going down to begin with and ensuring that this doesn't happen.

Was it skipped, or did it try and fail? In the log you provided it doesn't appear that it was skipped. It appears that it tried to record and failed.

If there's a specific example that we can look at in detail, then let's do that. Happy to help.

@Ronstanghave you checked your logs for failed recordings and the subsequent error message?

These are not skipped, these are recordings set day ahead in the future that I am 100% positive I had them selected that keep going unselected all by themselves, still a day or so in the future.  What log is going to show that?  Do the logs show when you select or deselect a recording?  If not then this is just an emby gremlin with no solution.

It's not the end of the world because I constantly scroll through a channel at a time to see my recordings to double check them, because of this problem, and that is how I caught it in time. But it is still annoying because I have actually missed recordings.

Can you please describe what you mean by unselected? Thanks.

If I go to a show or movie there is a button for record.  I hit the button and then a large red dot shows up with that program in both the guide or next to it when you select the channel it's on to view just that channels timeline.  That is "selected".  Now, I go through my channels quite often to see what is coming up for recording and when because I have to run a proxy for my Ceton cards (because 3 years after promised NextTV still is not here) and I have to reset my proxy once a day or it consumes all memory and crashes.  So I have to look out in the future in the early morning to find the best time to stop and restart CetonProxy without getting in the way of my recordings.  Sometimes when I am scrolling and looking at future recordings that I know had a red dot before are now devoid of the dot and thus are not scheduled to record anymore....this is "unselected" and I use that term because I had selected that program to record and it showed the red dot the day before but now it is not showing the dot any longer....with no input from me.  So I can only assume something in emby is doing this unselecting without my knowledge.

I am not talking about a recording failing at the time it's supposed to record.  That is totally different because if emby aborts a recording the red dot then disappears and I know this but what I am talking about is the red dots disappearing for recordings a day or more into the future when there is no tuner activity because that recording time has not happened yet.

I have no idea.  The only thought is I have noticed that emby recordings show up in task scheduler and if there is some activity on the machine outside of emby that could be erasing the tasks....but that is above my pay grade.

BTW, the reason I am 100% sure that I have selected the mentioned examples to record is because they are on Turner Classic Movies and I record everything on TCM every day of the week, ever week of the month etc. and sort them out after and I do this every few days by selecting all the new options that show as not set to record as the guide creeps along so I almost always have 2 weeks worth of selected recordings on TCM, at least a week.

Any chance your CetonProxy has recently been modified or updated?

No, it hasn't been updated for quite some time.
