Emby will repeat audio and then fix itself

Recommended Posts

Hi, so I have this problem with media playback

A few times in any media, the audio will just repeat the last 2 seconds again and then fix itself by speeding up the video a bit. The subtitles will even fix themselves by delaying until the next said line and will stay in sync

For as much as I gathered it only happens on web browsers no matter the computer, the same media won't be affected at the same place after trying to access it a few hours later. It happens on direct playback and transcoding but not when downloaded and it's completely random, it can happen 10 times in a 2 hour movie or be completely fine

It's a minor inconvenience but very noticeable when it happens. I would like to know if anyone ever encountered this problem and found a fix or reason for it happening

Thanks!

Hi all, I have the same issue and it has been going on forever, so just wanted to share my files in order for it to be fixed.

To me, it look like a few seconds of the audio are replayed, and then it "catches up" again by skipping the next few seconds, and everything is back in sync.

Currently, I am using Brave v 1.67.123 but have been able to reproduce it on other browsers in the past. The Emby app for Mac is what I am using to properly play the files. There are zero issues with that.

The issue happened just about 2-3 seconds before I stopped playback to export the log files.

Please see the 2 files attached, and let me know if you need anything else. Thank you!

I tried a few more times, and can confirm now this is even happening without any transcoding on files that play natively in Safari (H264 & AC-3). The only way for me to not have any playback issues is to use the Mac Emby app but the Web App always has some type of issue. Today it just suddenly stopped playing a file 2.5 minutes in.

I am not sure how common this is or why not more people are reporting issues with this. Maybe most people are not using the Web App.

If you need any further information, please let me know. Thanks!

Yip, happening to me also. Latest chrome browser, windows 11. Has the Emby team been able to reproduce the issue? Not the biggest fan of the windows app tbh even if it avoids this issue.

I looked at this for a long time now, and have a new theory: it seems to only affect files that have 5.1 or similar audio codec that needs to be transcoded on the web client, but not on the apps.
For example, I just had it happen again on the web client 6 minutes into playback.

The audio codec here is EAC3 5.1.

Is this something anyone has seen or something that can be fixed?

HI, that's helpful. We'll try to chase this down. Thanks.
