user84 46 Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 I am finding a lot of my videos aren't being found when I search. Then, when i get the IMDB ID, they still aren't found. Any thoughts on why?
Luke 42081 Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 Hi there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks.

If you follow above link, you might notice: Quote In your description, be very specific about the steps you took and what happened with the system. Describe it like you are talking to a blind person - because you are. We cannot see what you did or what happened so be as specific as possible. From your description, it is very hard to understand what's actually happening and what kind of issues you're encountering.
user84 46 Posted January 16, 2024 Author Posted January 16, 2024 Step 1 - Click three dot menu on TV episode Step 2 - Choose Identify Step 3 - Enter IMDB ID for Ken Burns Brooklyn Bridge found here - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082106/ Step 4 - Receive error message: No items matching your search criteria were found.

Item you're linking to is listed as a movie - you can't identify a movie in a TV show-type library as items are queried by type - how are your files named and organized? What library type is that particular library?
user84 46 Posted January 16, 2024 Author Posted January 16, 2024 I am a former Plex user and I had several of these in a folder related to the Ken Burns America series. Based on what you are saying, it looks like Emby needs the files to be in the Movie library to identify them. How can I see if IMDB is listing something as a movie or tv show for future reference?

Looked a bit more into it: TVDB lists Ken Burns movies as a TV show: Ken Burns Films - TheTVDB.com TBMD lists that particular item as a movie: Brooklyn Bridge (1981) — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org) Assuming your library is TV show-type library and you have TVDB as default meta-provider, you can identify it as a TV show/episode but it has to be properly named, i.e. S1981E01 as per: Ken Burns Films - Unknown - Season 1981 - TheTVDB.com. user84 46 Posted January 16, 2024 Author Posted January 16, 2024 (edited) Thank you for the information. The adjustments I am needing to make to my library are a bit of a learning curve as I transition. Didn't have many of these issues with previous experience. Thanks again. Yeah, there aren't many of these cases, items will typically be listed as either a TV show or a movie both on TVDB and TMDB - though some discrepancies do occasionally happen and you have to decide on your preferred scheme. FYI IMDbId is used only as a lookup reference for other provider's databases, meaning nothing is ever scraped from IMDB, it's just looking for an external link to an existing item with the providers, like: Edited January 16, 2024 by GrimReaper 1

Note that although Emby can try looking up media using the IMDB id as a key, it does not look up in IMDB itself (too expensive). Looking up of movies uses TMDB (The Movie Database) by default, and TV series are looked up in TVDB. In cases of difficulty it can be worth doing a manual lookup to check what the database actually used thinks the precise name and year is, for instance. Also, coming from Plex, you may also come across instances when the difference in recommended naming and folder structure conventions between the two products causes a problem; check with the Emby naming recommendations here and here. The Emby devs regularly improve the handling of a wider range of possibilities, though, commonly to help with libraries which Plex already handles! Paul 1
