Troubleshooting my linux setup with Unraid - Stuttering

I have a relatively fresh install of Emby and whenever I try to playback content it stutters and lags. At first I thought I wasn't getting transcoding to my 4k GoogleTV, so I went into settings and changed my docker to have the nvidia encoder parameters. So now I see the transcode decoder hardware in the settings (before I didnt) and so I thought that would fix it, but not my luck.

So now I'm stuck and not sure what to look at. *I think* it's transcoding, but when I look at my logs for a recent playback, there is no ffmpeg log. Does that mean its not transcoding? I do see ffmpeg logs for when I was on my cell phone out of the house and doing XMLTV live stream.

Here is some server log that is around the time I was playing a movie that stuttered.

Ok, so when I play through the web it seemed to be transcoding (audio said direct play but video was transcoding, i think).

But on my androidtv, the emby dashboard just says directplay everywhere. How do I get the android tv version to not direct play

You have a couple of options, accessible via the  ⚙ gear icon in the OSD:

- You can select "Playback Correction..." and see if that resolves your issue

OR

- Select a lower "Quality" setting which will force a transcode on the server

your last log seems to suggest you are using the standard Android app. What version of the Android TV app are you using? Can you show us a screenshot of what you see?

HI, where are you looking for it? It's in the video player.

It's the built in androidtv for a Hisense 75" tv

So I uninstalled the emby client, reinstalled from GitHub, and it's a older version? Now says 2.0.93g

Edit: same result with this version

That's because in that example of Harry Potter, the total bitrate is only 2mbps anyway, if you want to force transcode you will need to go even lower than 2.

Also, did you try this?

Ok making some headway here...

It seemed to get better with playback correction but not a lot, still uncomfortable to watch.

So I dropped down to 1mbps to see what would happen and the quality went down but transcoding started and stutter stopped!

Then I worked my way up 1, 1.5, 2, 3; all were transcoding until I got to 3 and the stutter jank came back.

So is there a way to make emby know to do this on its own?
